We found this boat in New London, NH about 2 years ago. It was a 2 owner boat that had been used strictly as a ski boat. It hadn't been babied, but didn't seem too abused and was pretty original. The original Commander 302 had problems during the last year that the PO had used it and they never winterized it. We confirmed that the engine had severe problems and bought a low hour 1987 PCM 240 from someone on CCF. We replaced all hoses and cables, and swapped out the mufflers for some copper tubes. It's a little rough around the edges, but runs like a new boat. We had it moored this past summer and used it a lot. It is the most fun of any boat I've driven. It sounds great with those copper tubes. As someone on shore said, "that little boat rumbles down the lake". We've found a Commander 351 that we will be swapping out next year, so that it will be period correct for the boat.
We have the original bill of sale and it was sold by Warren Witherell, who was a dealer in New York. Warren was one of the top skiers in the '50's & '60's and went on to be a Correct Craft dealer. He sold it to a friend and the 2 reportedly skied behind it regularly for about 20 years before it was purchased by the lady we bought it from. We hope to bring it to some reunions next year. It's a great little boat.
