If we knew which bacerd movin motor you had, it is highly likely that someone on this site would know quite a bit about it. Since you havent asked before, I guess you're basing that on the fact that you havent seen much written about your particular motor here before. Ask away and if that doesnt work, try these guys

Sorry Tim but I have to go with Larry and Steve on this one. It may be a age thing but I had to read the post very carefully and still don't know what a bacerd movin motor is!

I've never seen marine exhaust for an M ford motor not saying it isn't but I'd bet its a 351W,and if it is an M I also bet the motor cover isn't stock.

Bacerd parts include starter, rear oil seal, distr. gear, cam shaft

just to clarify my post. I knew what he meant. I was just commenting that we didnt know which RR engine he had. I don't know a ton about it but I am guessing more than just the older 351s were bacerd, so I was asking which engine he had so the folks knowledgable about such things could help. Also, the marineengine site has a bunch of engine manuals.

My 302 is a bacerd mover too, discovered that after putting a non-bacerd moving starter on it some years ago and sucking water from the lake into the combustion chambers. Water don't burn! Is the "different" parts list for my 302 the same as the 351: rear seal, starter, cam, distributer gear?
Lakerat; the initial post was hilarious, my concern is that I understood it all!

Depends what type rear seal you have,If you have a two piece rear main it is the same, the crankshaft has knurling cut to move the oil away from the seal.
Camshaft drive gear reversed
Starter spins backwards
Distr. drive gear R/Rotation
Oil pump and distr. spin normal direction
Special crank shaft w/ knurlings
Pistons installed backwards

Just curious...If I recall correctly my 89 351 was left rotation and I believe the newer boats are all left rotation, aren't they? My 76 tique is RR. When did the various motors go from right to left?

Another motor question. A while back Tim talked about ford getting out of the marine engine business. I thought ford (or chevy or whoever) built their normal engines and then PCM, OMC Indmar (or whoever) marinized them.

Did the engine makers do all the internal different stuff (like the things Boat doc listed above) at the factory, and the marinizers just did stuff like the wet exhaust...

Tim, were you pickin' on me for bein' a wise guy? If so, you misinterpreted. As I said above, I know what he was getting at and was trying to offer productive info. (Just making sure you realized that)

I'm glad you guys figured it out. My mind was set on something involving a child of a unmarried couple!!

Robert, I must say that I was taken back on your approach by using your text messaging style. I wouldn't have expected it from someone your age and you must understand you are dealing with a group that I don't feel are used to it ether. You should have read more of our posts and figured that out first. I also was surprised that someone who is a marina employee had a hard time finding a manual.

I agree with Mike (69 Mustang) that you should change you style here but please, I do not want to offend you especially you being a newbie. You will find this group very willing to help with any problem. Welcome and we will get your reverse rotation engine running.

Larry, Traditionally the marinizers of the engine will only do the marine specific items like manifolds, water pumps and carbs. The internals are supplied by the engine manufacturers. This is one of the reasons for the LH (standard) movement because building the RH is a "inconvenience" for the engine guys.

Larry, I just figured that you knew something I didnt. Im still trying to figure out what a bacerd movin motor is.

CC/PCM went from reverse rotation motors to standard rotation with the introduction of the 1.23 trans. The 1.23 reverses the direction of rotation, allowing a standard rotation motor to turn a RH prop- so it made everyone happy. I assume the LH motors were cheaper or easier to come by, and CC still got the benefit of the RH prop that offsets the weight of the driver.

Lots of ski boat manufacturers use LH motors, 1:1 trannies and LH props, but your old Supra wouldnt have been one of them. It had the 1.23, so it spun a RH just like a CC.

Im pretty sure that the marinization companies (PCM, Indmar, etc) get the long blocks from the auto manufacturer and assemble all the marine specific pieces (fuel pump(s), carb/EFI system, exhaust manifolds, alt, starter, dist, etc) onto them. With the exceptions of the EFI system and exh manifolds, the other marine parts are built by other vendors (Prestolite, Holley, Motorola, etc). I couldnt tell you how marine-specific the long blocks are that come from Chevy/Ford with regard to their internal parts. Id be interested to hear everyone elses take on it.

PCM was one of the few companies still using Ford motors once Indmar/MC went to Chevy in '94. They stuck with them until they ran out of 351w blocks in '02. Whether it was lack of support on the marinized parts or block, or if PCM just deemed the new OHC Fords as a poor choice for a marine motor, I have no idea. PCM's been all Chevy since '03, though.
