SkiCat, I agree with you, the only ice we have on our docks is in a gla$$ surrounded by "brown water". Guess that's what keeps us from freezing!

Amazing pictures. Did that house in the background on the second picture survive?
I havent seen the ice break that violently on my lake. However, its easily enough to rip the dock out in a snap.

Ok, Atlanta is looking pretty good. It is supposed to be around 80 here today. No ice on the docks here!

Here are a couple examples of why we have to take docks out in winter. Ice can be a pretty formidable force. Many docks are lost if you don't take proper precautions. These are at and near my sisters house in upstate NY. The first one is a mountain of crushed ice that was pushed up onto shore.

Joe's right, unless your dock is made of solid concrete or something, it would get absolutely demolished by the ice. I personally dont like floating docks...I get a bit woozy when the waves roll in.

Docks also come out so you don't have to worry about a person on a sled taking himself out.

Docks come out up here because when the ice that would form around them breaks up at the end of the season it has no problem destroying them or taking them away I have seen people wait too long to pull the boat and hoist out and end up with an upside down hoist and boat about a hundred yards out (it was a nice welded aluminum fishing boat, I offered to float it back up for him but he woudlnt even talk about it).

Floating docks are often used where the water level changes signficantly or even daily with the tides, or where its too deep or mucky to use poles

I have two out of three docks still in the water.. the only thing worse than pulling them out too early is leaving them in too long and having to do it as the snow falls (2 feet last night down the road from me in buffalo)

Saw that. Nice strong 454 engine. Looks like it's in great shape. If money isn't a concern, that's a great cla$$ic to grab. Very clean looking from what I can see.

Since we are a bit off-topic anyways, I thought I'd draw your attention (away from pink shirts) to the 2001 SN w/a 454 in the 'for sale' section. I think it just posted this afternoon. Top dollar, but what a sweet looking vessel.

79,

He's probably the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. I didn't think you'd have an issue with his sexual preference. What if he likes Nautiques, is he still scary? I'm sorry, I won't lay him on you anymore,79. Going forward, I'll be more sensitive to your concerns. This is a family site, not a romance site. I'm just trying to show Tim a shade of pink. So with that said, we'll go with Carson's pink.

Ken,,, dude please enough with the homo. The guy just scares me, I'm confident and don't have an issue with the color but the flaming part is too much.

Hell bring back the plaid shorts, a pink polo would match awsome with those things.

Ken,

Thanks for the clarification....I was in the middle of this thread for a while and then dropped out.....saw a ref. to Scott and wasn't sure.

Looking at Nauti84's 0 hours makes me appreciate any time we can get on the water.

Hey Larry,

I'm Mr. Hardcore this year. I will be boating, with my boat until Halloween. It goes into storage on Nov 1. My goal is to put another 10 hours on it by end of season. Break out the wetsuits! I should have my boat back this week.

It's official Brad, Tim and Keith. We now have our offical drop ski for the New England Region. Let's come up with a good color so we can see it when it's dropped. I'll give it a full sanding and priming. The Correctcraftfan.com logo is in order. Brad, I know you'll be happy as a clam since you're a footer now. Thanks, Larry, we'll post a picture when it's complete. If anyone else wants to try footing for the first time, let me know. We've got the best set up!

Shoot, didn't realize it was a Friday. That makes it a little tougher for me. Changed employers last spring so its a little harder to slip out than my last job of 18 years. Don't plan on spending the night, do you? We'll figure something out.

As far as the ski, its yours, or maybe its the official drop ski of the New England Chapter of CCFan. Do what you want with it. Get a decal from Keith to stick on it.

Hey Larry,

Yup, I'll be in Sandwich the 29th for a 4:30PM wedding. I will be off that day, so my wife and I will get an early start down there. What time are you working until?

BTW, your drop ski is awesome. Brad, Tim and I have all used it already and enjoy it. Anyway I can buy it from ya? I'd like to sand it and paint it a brighter color.
