I've never experienced worse spray than out the side of a 2001. I hope to god that's not what they were intending to do with the tapered chine. If so, they failed.
I assumed it was intended to improve handling. |

Yes, I too really like the 17.9 Tiques. I've always wanted to do a Classic 20th clone with one. I assume they R&D'd those tapers before they developed the 2001 in order to reduce chine spray. I've never had the operatunity to play and compare w/ the gen 2.

I think those '82-'83 Tiques are very cool! Would love to have that boat. Does anybody know why CC did the tapered chines on that boat? As stated above, it was basically the 2nd Gen SN.....with the 2001's tapered chine. What purpose did it serve on that narrower boat? Wouldn't it have made the running surface much narrower for an already narrow boat, and somehow effect the wake? Curious minds want to know! :)

Ha, this is why I still lurk on this site even though I'm boatless at the moment. I learn something every time. I was referring to the tapered chine. After Tim's comment, I read the 1990 brochure and learned what spray relief pockets actually are! |

Actually might not be a bad deal. New seats and a couple months of scrubbing and you might have a pretty respectable boat for < $5,000 ish. Assuming engine is really OK.

Original owner '83 Tique for sale in CT
Perhaps a candidate for the Benjamin collection Pretty neat boat. I believe these are basically a 2gen SN hull with the spray relief and 302? Wonder how many were built. If only I had a garage... |

So it is Pete. I should have reread the ad before posting. We have the 4 cyl in our jr utility. Have never started ours up but freshened up the carb, gen and starter for when the day comes we need it. That 14 1/2 ft is a shorty.

Jack, Keep in mind that the Atom Chris is looking at is the original short 14'6" hull so the engine is a 4 cyl. Graymarine/Continental and not a Chris/Hercules K. Mark, Gray parts can be hard to come by but it really depends on to what extent you want to rebuild it. I'd say a top end valve job should not be a problem at all but the bottom end may. Before you tear into the bottom, look for the availability of things like undersize bearings and oversize pistons. If you ever get to that point, I can give you a couple phone numbers to call. |

I have pretty much that same boat except with fins. The K block is what it looks like should be reasonably easy to get parts and is a better fit for that small hull than the 327 AMC in mine. Price seems very fair but be advised there is not much structure under the plywood sides so if needing new hull material the boat sort of disappears when you remove the skins. A bit scary for me. Looks like the top deck has been replaced and the trailer is non original. Probably a fair price for what is there and it has potential for a boat not worth more than $5k in very good condition..

(Quote) mentioned to my wife a couple days ago that I'm thinking about restoring an antique boat. She wasn't impressed but she didn't say no... technically. This boat looks like its in descent shape for a great restore. Especially for $1,100. She did say that she wants a new yukon before I start the project. I guess I'm looking for a new vehicle so I can get to New Hampshire before one of y'all do.
On a serious note, how hard is it to get parts for that engine or possibly a new block if it came down to it? (Quote) I have pretty much that same boat except with fins.
