The rear lifting ring was pullng up out of the boat, I tried to tighten the nuts into the transom, they just spinned. I have a repair guy out who removed a section of the wood transom about 1 foot by 1 foot section. We are going to epoxy and glass it back in but was wondering why you wouldnt do a larger section of it. does the epoxy and glass hold all the wood pieces together in the transom for a sturdy fit?

Roy,

The ply is primarily there for someplace to mount the bolts so the heads aren't showing on the outside of the transom. It does spread the load into the transom but it's really the transom that carries the load. If epoxy resined and glassed in with several layers, it will be fine. The layer between the transom and the ply should have fiberglass mat in it to take up minor gaps.

Sounds like your boat has seen a rough life! How's the exhaust hose project going?

what you describe is exactly what he is doing, the whole operation being foreign to me.
The boat is actually factory original and has only seen 300 hours out of its fully enclosed boat house. It is time for some general maintenance though right. I am surprised by the transom problem seeing how good the rest of the boat looks. but since i have the tank out im doing fuel line, vent line, both shaft packings, exhaust.
