Now that Tullfooter has been outed as an avid tuber, I feel compelled to stand up for this glorious water sport. Here is a recent photo of my two favorite competitors on the west coast tubing circuit.
Be loud and proud Tull you are in good company. BKH |

BK, whatever it takes to get and keep the family on the water. Another year or so your little girl is going to be wanting to move up to something else.
Edit: Hard to not like something that puts a smile on the faces of 2 VIPs like that. |

oh I thought this was going to be about standing up on the tube while tubing and then finishing with a back flip off of the moving tube.
which I do recommend doing a front flip verses a back flip has it's a little less stressfull on the back when you hit the water and your upper body stops but the momentum keeps your lower body going forward not good unless your a cat or the that one girl from america's got talent. |

That's a great picture Brian.
Here is a shot from a couple of weeks ago of me and my 6 year-old daughter on the double tube. This was her first time on the tube and, as you can see by the smile on her face, she loved it. When we got back to the dock my wife asked her how she liked it and she exclaimed, “That was awesome!” Kyle |

Nice Kyle.
Daughter is 20 months, and that was her first tube ride. Wife is . . . well, more than 20 months and that may have been her first tube ride in over 10 years. Just a little fun on a Sunday afternoon. BKH |

Kyle, I was snooping around your neighborhood the other day trying to find you Skylark. Your house is easy to find with your 176 at the dock. I did't see any signs of that Skylark. Have you had it in the water this year?

He was out tubing. We tubing enthusiasts like to get out as often as possible, particularly in the morning when those pesky skiers mess up our water. BKH |

This is a great post. I just had an excellent experience over July 4th weekend. Mrs. Backfoot and I were at her bosses place for a party. They live on a lake so I took the boat over. He has a 12 yr. old daughter and 13 yr. old son who've never been skiing before. The son wanted to ski so I got him up on a pair of combos at the same time I taught the dad to drive an inboard and he was pulling his son around the lake in an hour.
His daughter was absolutely scared to death to even get in the water let alone ski. His wife has filled his daughter with these visions of snakes and gators since they were old enough to walk. They don't have a ski boat but they do have a fishing boat, pontoon and PWC's and he went out and bought a tube just for the party knowing that I would be there with the boat. The daughter had a friend come over and the friend wanted to tube, but the daughter absolutely refused. The friend finally talked her into it after they saw me pulling a few of the boys around in the tube. At the end of the day, the son learned to ski, the daughter was tubing (and absolutely loving the water) and the dad had experienced driving an inboard and pulling his son up for the first time. I let them hold onto the combos and a tow rope and he now can't keep either of the kids off the water. He's even looking to buy an inboard now. Of course, I recommended a CC. All this in one day and it probably never would have happened without that tube. Don't tell me that tubes don't have a place in the world of watersports. |

When people run down to the lake to see what's making that noise, you've succeeded.

My boys (now 18 and older) who all ski and board love to tube (I confess, I confess). Brian they got their start on the tube about the time they could walk, dad driving and mom riding with them. It was a great way to help them get comfortable behind a boat.

Ill stand up for it. It is an excellent rough water sport on those busy weekends. Never to be done on deecent water though. My tubers arent being ran hard enough untill they are cartwheeling upon exiting the tube haha. Tubing behind my boat is equal to an ass beating ha.

Hi Bruce, Unfortunately I haven’t gotten the Skylark in the water. I was going to put it in a couple of weeks ago, but it looks like the battery is dead. I’m off next week and hope to get it in the water then. How are you and the boys doing with the Mustang? Kyle |

We're picking away at the Mustang at a pretty slow but, steady pace. We've been too busy this summer being out on the water. I probably work on it an hour per week. We'll do a lot more after Labor Day when the other boat comes out of the water. We're looking at having it in the water in '09. Hopefully, for one of the reunions. You picked your vacation right, finally some nice weather. |

BK, great picture! It's good to see smiling faces out there. I have to agree that you do whatever it takes to get your loved ones out there and enjoying it.
We finally broke down and bought a tube (at a huge discount) four years ago. But it was such a pain to haul around I stopped taking it. We decided to save it for vacations only. However, the kids have started to enjoy skiing and boarding so much that we haven't even used the tube now for a couple summers. |

I've seen Mrs BKH slalom, wakeboard and wakesurf all in water about 15 deg cooler than she'd choose.
I'd say you all have the water cred to get a pass on a little tube time. Besides, Aspen _did_ try to ski before she tubed, right? |

Ya HW, I agree. Tubing is about as much a sport as men's synchronized diving.

I for one, hate tubers! for one reason!! Most tubers are not skiiers, so, they drive is circles making it impossible to slalom!!!! if they are considerate, i am fine...anyine else feel the same??

That's why we slalom early in the morning or late in the evening, when the Tubers are either still asleep or tired from a fully loaded tubing day... At the skiclubs in the neighborhood there is kind of a gentleman's agreement here: barefooters out first, followed by the slalommers and then the skiers. The rest do their thing the rest of the day... Engine's start somewhere around 6.30 to 7 AM here, and by 10 to 11 AM, the skiers hit the beach and watch the unexperienced drivers and tourists do their thing on the water over a nice cold beer... We even get our own tubes out by then Somewhere around 7 PM, we get back out on the water for the serious work. |
