Hi guys and gals not sure where this post needs to go, I have a 89 nautique. It has the 2 into one exhaust. As long as I can remember ive always wanted a nautique I love the exhaust sound of them mastercrafts, tige etc. I guess I got caught up in the moment of actually driving mine when i was running it in the water before i bought it i never even noticed that it only had 1 exhaust port. bla bla bla anyways i didnt pay attention to the sound. I WANT A LOUDER exhaust I wanna be heard. However im not real savy on these boats just yet ive always owned inboard/outboards. So any ideas how i can get more sound out of the exhaust? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Kip,
Welcome to the site. You will find the answers here!!

Seems our search feature is down so I can't find the thread for you and provide a link.

Do a search for "got pipes". It's by one of our members TRBeng. If you have been to other sites such as PN then you may have seen his valuable contributions on other sites as well as here.

Tim did a dual exhaust and explained the procedure as well provide pictures in his thread. Check it out.

Has anyone ever taken the baffles out of the invertaflow muffler? Or just installed a Y in it's place?

Steve, you need to snap a pic of that hydro exhaust with the crossover pipe, I think the pipe is beneficial if you are going to modify your exhasut, its one of those they wouldnt of spent the extra money at the factory unless there was some type of performance gain. BTW, hydro's are the only ones that ive seen that do that, unless it has somethiong to do with that bowtie in there lol

Eric, We'll do. I hope to be getting the boat out this week. I'll be giving you a call this week to discuss some other issues.

Would be very interested in this Y configuration, cause I don't want to drill holes in the transom for the dual pipes (even tho they look very cool on Tims'boat).

My case is exactly the opposite, I'm building this 22 feet cabin boat with a 351 Commander and I want it to be as quiet as it can, any ideas?

You can buy K9's invertaflow. He may not need it much longer!

Eric here's a few shots of the crossover on the Dyne you asked about.

BTW have you ever encountered a nylon shaft seal such as this. I'm thinking of installing an OJ dripless while I'm replaceing the strut bushing.

Thanks for the comments on the exhaust, guys. Definitely not a project for the faint of heart, but it gets the job done in the looks department. Doesnt sound bad either- though it is a bit loud for a ski boat.

86BFN, tell me about that crossover pipe (H-pipe). Was that installed on your Dyne from the factory? If you did it yourself, Im curious if it made a performance improvement. I am planning to add one to my '90 this year, as well as a set of small mufflers so my ears dont ring after I ski.

k9spd403, this was posted on PlanetNautique just recently

Put a 92 ski in one year that i just bought and the prev owner did not tell me that he had not replaced the impeller. Took it out and it got hot fast. We did paddle it back as the rear exhaust hoses melted and it destroyed the inside of the muffler.

As far as i could tell no damage to the engine at all. An old boat mechanic told me you really have to heat one (Block) up to damage it. Don't remember the temp it got to but it was hot.

We just replaced the hoses and "gutted out" the inside of the muffler and also did a bit of fiberglass repair on the muff. It actually improved the sound and gave it a little more rumble. . . .like an nautique ought to sound like. Good luck with the new kid!!!!

TRBenj, Yes it came from the factory this way. I would think there is a slight performance advantage to the crossover, as to how much, your guess is as good as mine. The mufflers are fiberglass and have gotten a bit louder over the years. it really does have a nice sound to it. Last spring when my wife went for her first ski of the year she asked if I have modified the exaust. LOL

You sure that's an '89?

I was pretty sure the sloped transom didn't come around until '90

I'm probably wrong though & someone will surely be quick to correct me.

Nate, thats a Sport Nautique. It didnt officially make the brochure until '90, but there are a handful of '89's around.

I thought i'd seen before that the Sport was introduced in '89, but i went & checked in the reference & couldn't find one. I just initially saw the sloped transom & the numbers '89' & thought differently.

Nice boat!

Hey Tim,

I want to put duel's on my '95. If you could take a pic of the rudder arm mod for me I would appreciate it immensely.
Thanks

Well i got down with a flashlight yesterday afternoon, and began looking. When i looked up in the exhaust tubefrom the rear of the boat, it looks like there is like maybe a baffle layer inside the tube. It looks like there are maybe hundreds of 1/2 to 1 inch bubles all in the pipe. Is this some type of sound dampner?
