   I sent Owen an email asking if it was possible to replace the bow roller stop with the crash pads if there is a problem with the roller location. 

I was actually kind of looking forward to getting rid of the crash pads. They are a pain when you are trying to remove the cover after the boat slides forward on the trailer and I think they are what caused the damage to my rub rail in the front.

	If anyone out there has a 1998-2002 Sport Nautique, I would really appreciate it if you could measure from the bottom of the rub rail to the center of the bow eye, along the keel and let me know what you get.

	If you have the trailer in too deep and are power loading hard up to the crash pads I can see how they might pull the rub rail down as the back end of the boat falls onto the bunks. Loosen the turnbuckle and squat the nose of the boat. Face away fromt the boat, rub rail just above your shoulders. You are strong enough to lift up enough of the boat for someone else to slide the cover in or out. Again, you must not load too tight against the pads. I make sure to point out the damage on quinner's boat from that keel roller every so often.

	Owen replied quickly form his blackberry to my question about adding the crash pads instead of the bow roller. Here is what he said: "It could, but we run into the problem of positioning the crash pads. Without the boat I don't know that I can get the pads located just right."

	Randy, the crash pads are one of the few nice features of the CC/Ramlin trailers. Theyre not the cleanest looking and theyre a pain to put the cover on, but you sure cant beat them when loading. If Boatmate is willing, they could make the crash pad stand floating- either attached via several bold holes or held down with ties like Ramlin does it.

	My crash pads have a pin and flip forward. No problem with the cover. I wouldn't have a trailer without the crash pads. I will be removing the roller and installing crash pad on my 82 trailer - - If I ever get around to putting the boat back together. BKH

	Last night I sent an email to anyone I could find in the diaries that had a 97-2002 SPN. I got a few responses from folks who still had their boat in storage and were willing to take the measurement for me in the near future. But a big thanks goes out to Steve Jones who has his '98 Sport listed in the diaries and was able to confirm for me that the placement of the bow eye is the same on the '93-98 SPN and the '98-2002 SPN. Thank you to all who responded! I will be contacting Owen today to get things moving on this trailer.
