help with gelcoat/restoration in NC

Welcome Luck79. Be sure and throw some pictures up when you get a chance. We Love Pictures! As for Gel, have you tried the search feature yet? Not your typical diy IMO, but many have done it. It cost $$$ to have it done professionally.

Not that a woman can't do gel coat work, but it's not something we read about every day. Since a member here, Sanity (aka Michelle) pulled back the blond hair into a ponytail, got out the sander, read a bunch of books on applying gelcoat, and sprayed her own gelcoat on her Mustang project, I think a lot of people have gained courage to do their own work. I'm not saying anyone can do it, and Michelle does seem to have a talent for it. I'm just saying she's given a lot of people the courage to try. I say if you are talented with your hands, you can figure it out.

Some people do prep and paint the hulls, particularly when they are pretty well gone. It's a lot less labor than applying gelcoat. Still, the gelcoat is more durable over the long haul, and probably easier to maintain once it's done.

I agree with Pete, Paint is no place for a boat.
(at least not a fiberglass boat)

He is a great guy and he and Reid P have a great love for these older boats.

Gel is the way to go.
