Stymie - You might hsve air leaks in the water lines or strainer. Search for 'Bucket test' on this site & see if the raw water pump sucks down a 5 gallon bucket. You also may have chunks of impeller in your thermostat housing. It is not good to run without a t'stat. The manufacturer would have left them out (if it wasn't needed) as a cost reduction!

i seem to be having a problem with my 87 cc with a 351 pcm. it started running hot over the weekend. i channged the impeller, witch was chuded up. it still running up to 200 degrese at an idle.so i took out the thermostat and it runs at 140. is it ok not to run a thermostat? im going to put in a new 140 stat in it today.also it allways ran at 180 with a 140 stat in it. could it be the cuculator pump. thanks.
