93 sport nautique, 550hrs pro boss 351. The water pump on the front drivers side of the motor seized up on me and caused my motor to overheat. Luckily I caught it in time and got towed back in.
My question is where do i buy another pump? Is this one rebuildable? How difficult is it and how costly to repair the pump? I tried to search but found nothing. Thanks |

AU,
The pumps are rebuildable and each one has a kit to do that. You may of just lost your rubber impeler. I take mine out every winter and inspect it. I do not reinstall until the spring. If your impeler is tore up, you may need to open the cooling system to get out any broken pieces. I am thinkning that you just lost your impeler. These are common wear items, but they are also very important. When you remove your pump, be sure to mark the top or bottom so that so will not reinstall it upside down. The impeller is inside the pump. You need to remove the pump from the motor and disassemble the pump housing to inspect the impeler. www.skidim.com or Discount Inboard Marine in South Carolina will have impelers or pump rebuild kits. I hope this helps, Donald |

So I am going to go take it apart, I figure I need the major rebuild kit = 150 bucks. I am pretty mechanically inclined so i figure this cant be too bad. Anyone have any experience rebuilding these so I know what I am getting myself into?

AUTaco....
No need to "Bump" your topic here. It hasn't even been that long since you posted last night. If your pump actually siezed, I wouldn't think a bad impeller would cause that. Yes a bad impeller would overheat your engine, but not stop the shaft from spinning. Take the raw water pump apart, noting the orientation before you do. Check the condition of your impeller, and make sure the pump shaft spins freely with the drive belt off. |

I bumped and started this new thread because I am trying to get this fixed and get back on the water ASAP. The other thread was my build thread and didnt get much attention.
I am trying to figure out weather to rebuild or buy a new pump. The pully and shaft are seized up and will not budge at all (this is with it completely removed from the boat no belt attached.) |

Damn they are pricey, I bought a new one a couple years ago and didnt remember it braking the bank. I would think they could paint the cast iron housing for that kinda dough.

AUT,
You said the pump is removed from the boat and the shaft is seized. Have you opened up the housing to see what's locked up? If it is the shaft bearing, and don't want to wait for the Skidim rebuild kit or a new pump, you can go to a power transmission supply and get the bearing and seal. |

well I took it apart and put ti back together and it spins just fine now, not sure what the problem was. Only issue is I sheared off 2 of the 3 bolts to bolt it together, guess Ill go get a bit and tap tomorrow and hope there is enough material to make a little bit bigger bolt work.
