Working on a Garage / Workshop plan for a client, he claims to be a boat enthusiast as well as an "Inboard only Guy". Recently wrapped up his plans and it left me scratching my head, hopefully you guy's can provide some input as I believe this particular "client" does browse this site. Any thoughts and/or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I think there's a guy not far down the road from me that could use a set-up like that......
You might think about a bit more room for the silicone storage area however. |

Nice work, but I hope you finished his "other" plans before getting these done or there is going to be a lot of whining to be heard..

Not to diminish CQ's creativity as he certainly is talented but I've got the feeling he had some help. I picture this scenario: HW comes in with a case of Coors light, some discussion starts, the computer is turned on and then...............
BTW, I certainly don't need to do any sit-ups today as my stomach muscles got a major work out!! |

This is gonna get pricey. Factor in several consults with NASA for the alignment room. Then there's the reference library which will need some wood work. I'm guessing your shop will be down during the update and Alan is busy with the Hurricane...that means I'll be in a position to charge you a little extra.

Quinner, you'll never get LEED Gold with that wood incinerator. I do think the pole from Weasels is worth 2 points though!

Steve, The cover charge depends on what talent I can get to come with the pole! We sure don't want to see CQ or HW using it! In fact, if they were using it, I think they would need to pay our wives/girl friends to come and see them!! I haven't been to Weasels in I'd say well over 25 years but I understand he does get top shelf talent from all over the country. The place is always busy when I drive past. The kegolator? Damn, I forgot about that or even a frig. Well, I'll just have to make room for it in the storage room. Now I'll have to change to electric print to include a outlet in there!!! |

Mark, All four contractors bidding on the job are quoting urethane spray foam with a alternate of regular fiberglass. I'm told the spray foam is about twice the cost of glass BUT, there are a several things that do reduce the cost. No vapor barrier is required inside and no house wrap is needed on the outside. Since the spray foam adds lateral bracing in the walls, some zoning will permit it to be a substitute for sheathing. But, I'm also going with a rough saw plywood with battens on the outside to mimic a batten on board siding. This rough sawn ply is also structural rated so absolutely no exterior ply sheathing is needed ether. I'll end up with a R38 in the 2x6 walls and I'm going for roughly a R60 in the ceiling. With a 95% efficency condensing boiler for the in floor hydronic heat, I should end up with a very low heating cost. |

Pete, if you can get those dancing girls to generate enough heat via friction on the "support column/dance pole" you could lower your building costs further by eliminating the boiler. Chris could come up with a plan to route the in floor heat system through the column as some sort of heat exchanger. I'm sure he'd be willing to research the details for a system like that.... |

I'm sure CQ and HW could generate enough heat while testing it to melt the polar ice cap. "All man doors swing both ways".... You crack me up Quinner.... Mike |

We may have to get Quinner and Hollywood to travel north to do the research. I don't think an armchair estimate of the actual heat transfer capacity of the dance pole would be worth much. I think some serious Weasels observation time will be required. |

Hey Mark,
Don't you have a floating guest room out front of your place that they could stay in? |

I sure am glad I have all the electronic files of the real prints. I'd hate to see what would happen if the contractor requested additional copies of the floor plan and CQ emailed the "new" version!!
Charlie, Bring some of that R134 and a length of that 4" copper your'e working on so we can do some testing. |

Sure.....they are more than welcome to stay out on the raft. I will just have to relocate it about a 1/2 mile to the north of where it usually sits if they do take me up on your offer! |
