Does anyone here know of a quality grease gun. I have several and I can get grease on me, on the floor on, just about anything except a grease fitting. I have poked at the little ball to make sure they move, cleaned off the nipple and just can't seem to be able to load any grease. The grease guns act as if the loose their prime. I must be overlooking something simple but I am lost! If it matters I am greasing the sheeves on a mower deck. I did manage to get some through one u joint on the driveshaft, but still only one end of the shaft.

Hmmm... never had that much trouble with any gun. Is the tube loaded the right way? I don't think you can load them the wrong way actually...Are you compressing the plunger/spring after you load your tube of grease?

Ha ha. Let me know when you find one. I bought what I believed to be a good one. Worked fine. Topping off my bearing buddies the other day, and liquid from the waterproff grease runs out the back of the gun, and all over my feet.

Kevin,
If the grease won't go in, there's a good chance that it's not the Zurk fitting so don't worry about the little ball. I've had things like U joints of spindle bearings not wanting grease because the grease has hardened up/solidified. The only solution then is to open up the bearing/lube point, wash it out and start over. Probably the best name in lubrication is "Lincoln". Look for one of there guns but in your case it may not help. When the grease isn't going where it's suppose to, there's lots of pressure when you pump the handle. It will come out someplace else!! |

Graco and Allamite are also big in the Jiffy Lube and car dealer industry. Like Lincoln it is all professional grade stuff. You may find something used that is affordable.
I hope this helps, Donald |

Yep! Like Brians Feet.....He HE Hee! I can see it now, in slow motion from a few feet behind and to the side as Brian triumphantly pumps grease into the zerk fitting with a big grin on his face as the handle completes a full cycle. His chesire cat grin quickly turns to a frumpy frown and an expletive leaves his lips as the grease oozies out of the bottom of the gun and onto is newly pedicured feet! Now thats funny!!!! |

Yes, hardy, har, har.
Actually wasn't the pressure in my case. The waterproof grease just separates a bit in the heat. It will ooze even when sitting on the shelf. Wiped the gun off good before I started, and it still oozed out the back of the gun all over my feet. Nice shade of blue though. BKH |
