Just curious. Hope this doesn't get me kicked off the site. Have to do something on those breezy days.

Any other sailors out there? I'm in CC withdrawal the next two weekends as we are off at sailing regattas.

I have raced most of the regattas from Brownville Texas to the Florida Keys over the past 20 years.I was never a AA class sailor, but could trophy on any given course.Much prefer bouys to distance, nothing compares to the head rush with 30 boats on a start line at 30 seconds till the HORN...
Same type of people as the CCFans , just different motors.

My son joined the High School sailing team last year and seems to be loving it. They are sailing 420's

   I started sailing when I was about 8, and raced sunfish and lasers for awhile, then got into some near coastal cruising and such, now I'm an ASA certified instructor.. but honestly nothing does it for me like the smell of raw big block exhaust on the water..

Interesting to see some of the most active CCF'ers are sailors !
Definitely the same kind of crowd into watersports and sailing, we don't mind getting our hands dirty and love messing around with boats. There's nothing like the sound of a V-8 in the morning though!!

JJ - Yep, it's a thistle, hull 1485, built 1963 by Schock restored 2005 by us. My wife and I have been very active in the class for the last 15 years. Super cool people and great times. Bummer you had to give up the SN but looks like she's in very good hands! I hear you on the family not being into it - I can't seem to get my wife into skiing yet. Unfortunately she injured herself this summer on the boat - not helping!

Eric - good to hear from a diehard CCF'er! BTW I have sailed several regattas out of EYC, also cruised the flats about 10 years ago on a big Searay out of there. Nice club.

Billy - cat racing is one aspect of the sport I haven't had the chance to try yet. I bet it is a blast. I have done distance, Newport to Bermuda twice and the Fastnet were the bigger races. I much prefer small boats around the bouys. Great rush on the starting line! The below pic on the wall of the St. Pete YC bar was 70 boats. That was a blast!

    I ski on Greenwood Lake, on the NY/NJ border.. Nice ski lake, not so great for sailing but there are quite a few sail boats on the lake.. Where do you ski?

I windsurf occasionally..I grew up saling (optimist, laser, sunfish, you name it) my father used to own a 37" sail boat..nice boat, but unfortunally due to an electric failure in the engine..it burned out...bad thing my dad and some friends were on board..they had to jump out..no one got hurt only small burns...
After that no more boats for my dad...

NIIICE Thistle! I owned #3324 for many years. I am on the other end of the spectrum and I have just joined the stinkpot crowd recently. I have grown up sailing-mostly racing on everything from Lasers to GL70s. I currently own too many sailboats--Star, Hobie 16, Hobie 18 Magnum, A couple of Optis for the kids and a Flying Scot that I have just recored and am preparing to sell. I also have a DN.
I tried to take the H-18 out tonight but it did not go as I had hoped. Mid 80's here in SW Michigan. Not too many of those days left!

Boring day at work, so going through old threads. Grew up sailing the Sunfish's, Snarks, etc. Couple years ago bought an early 70's Hobie 16 to teach the girls to sail (I'm a big proponent of teaching them what I call "life skills"). Very fun when the winds kick up the water to much to ski and much better then breaking out the tubes! Problem is I have no idea if I have it rigged correctly, but man its fun when you get it up on one hull, it vibrates and whistles and hums, reminds me of flying a Piper cub with the window open. Billy or JoeInNY, next time you get up to Green Lake, I may have to steal you away for some lessons
