Started changing the fluid on my transmission (PCM 1.23). I either found really dirty transmission fluid or its 20w20 oil. Boat is an 89, not sure of history on transmission. I'll see if I can get some pictures.

Went to suck out the oil with my Jabsco hand pump. I was able to get about half a quart. Not sure how to get the rest. Can I just add fluid, dilute, remove, and repeat? (Have vavoline - Dex/Merc to replace.)

I was able to get the tube down about 6 inches, than it would proceed down a second smaller hole into the transmission? I didn't want to get the hose stuck down there so I thought I'd see if I was doing anything wrong.

Going to take it out tomorrow and check the alignment on the water and hopefully replace the fluid.

Thanks.

probably a minimum of 3 times to completely flush, at op temp, shift in and out of gear frequently to get the oil out of the clutch pack

As long as the hose is going down the smaller hole centered in the dipstick hole, youre fine. Dont let it go into a cavity off to the side, the results may not be pretty... dont ask me how I know that!

It was common for the early 1.23 boxes to have the straight 20w. I pulled mine at 1100 hrs and inspected it- and it looked terrific. I went back with Dex/Merc though.

Thanks. I saw your thread and it got me worried. Have a half day today, going to bring the boat out and finish it up.

Update: Changed the fluid out and looks good. Thanks for the help.
