Guys,
This is very annoying. My Humminbird HDR 610 is reading the wrong depth. I got stock twice this weekend because the lakes are low in Texas. Luckly I was cruising really slow. I did't notice any noticeable damage to the prop. The problem is that depth finder is reading a depth of 500ft. Any ideas on what can I do to fix the problem or where to start troubleshooting?

Thanks,

The depth finder is a 2 year old unit. It has been working fairly good all this time. Thanks for the link. -Anthony

After quickly glancing at the manual there, have you done anything to the transducer? I don't know where you keep your boat in the winter, but this past one has caused all kinds of issues with things I don't usually worry about. I would check to see if the transducer is mounted the way it is supposed to be.

I think you might be close. The boat stays at my house but it sleeps outside. I think the transducer might be problem. I would take a closer look.

I just installed the Humminbird HDR650 in my 1998 Air/Sport Nautique. Purchased the standard transom mounted transducer and installed as an in-hull. Removed the center floor board and installed just inboard of the stringer adjacent to where the driveshaft passes thru hull. This turned out to be a great location and had no problems bonding to the hull. So far have put about 10-12 hrs with the depth sounder installed and it has operated flawlessly. Used a 2 part epoxy that was a "30 minute" cure time and sanded the hull before attaching. My first outing was to Lake Norman in NC and I was very unfamiliar with the lake and the Humminbird was absolutely dead on accurate. I was not sure about mounting in this location but it turned out to be a great spot. I used the "freezer bag of water" technique to test for locations before bonding. DO NOT worry when your depth sounder doesn't work after bonding to the boat until you launch the boat!! (they don't transmit thru air)
