With a little help from Bruce Hart, I found the hardware for the first gen windshields. Taylor Made apparently still makes the hold down fasteners.

Bruce sent me this link for the mounting gasket http://www.boatersland.com/tay826500.html

And then I found the hold down fasteners are still made as well. http://www.boatersland.com/tay1607.html

Now if they would just make that windshield again....

Hope this is helpful to everyone

Jeff

Nice finds! I will have to add those to the list of goodies this spring for the Skier.

Hope to see some progress pics of that 67 sometime soon!

Good info- I think UPD has come up here in the past. I would imagine that *someone* here has one of their windshields. Prices sure seem reasonable!

A word of caution though- make sure you get one for a 1st gen SN... they have a '68 listed, which should work. Make sure you dont order the one for a '61 Classic (like you linked to) as I dont believe the width is the same!

Yes, I believe you are correct about that TR. I just linked it as a price comparative. The windshield issues for these boats come up so often, I just thought I would start a common thread that these links could be found on.

When I bought that windshield from Taylor Made I don't believe it cost much more than that one,it was the shipping that changed everything.

Yes, but it's my understanding the ones Taylor Made have now are not the perfect fit for the first gens. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I read that in the threads here somewhere.

Jeff,
You are correct that the ones Taylor still makes are not the same as the OE.

Gary,
Post a picture for Jeff to see how funny your other windshield looked on the boat. "Funny" may not be the correct word!! "Out of place" is better!

Out of place would be closer I think. In my defence there were 2 different ones, the "Holiday" and the one I used the "Sportsman" which was shorter. I think the Holiday would have been much closer to the original, but very hard to visualize not actually having one to see in person first.

Here is the one I picked-

Here is the one I have now that is an original glass-

Jeff,
Unless your old plastic is fully crazed, they buff out real nice.

Nothing wrong with my glass. A little crazed under the gasket area but that's it. I was just missing the mounting gasket and hardware. I didn't even really know how it attached. Bruce put me onto the gasket and sent some pics and I found the hardware at the same place. I've seen the windshields for these brought up so many times I thought I would try to condense it into one place and put the links on where to find these little gems. I ran across the windshields when looking for parts for my M.C. I thought this would be a good place to post it.

Hello,
I'm restoring a 1959 SeaKing (Montgomery Ward) and I am having a terrible time locating a windshield. Mine would be perfect for a restore except for the 5 inch crack in the top. Anybody know how to fix that?

It looks and measures the same as these Taylor Made Holiday windshields.
Where did you find one?
Everywhere I've looked says they are discontinued.

Thanks,
Jay

Jay

Have you called Taylor Made to make sure? I would try that first but here is a link to some guys that do custom work.

I tried the link, but got a 404 error.

I talked to Taylor Made and they can still make one to order, but there is a 6 week lead time and the prices have gone up almost $100 each. (not to mention $150-200 for shipping).

I may stick with my 52-year-old plastic or maybe try to make a lexan one myself.
