We should be good. Fortunately, due to my daughters surgery i pulled my boat knowing i probably wont use it again this year, so that's all set.( unless a tree falls on the garage) <finds wood to knock on> BIL pulled all the jet skis yesterday and secured everything at the camp and my house for me. Guess i'll just ride it out in Boston. Wish I could be home for it, though. I'm only about a mile from the ocean as the crow flies, so storms like this are usually pretty interesting. This storm appears to be weakening, but it is huge and is packing a ton of rain, they are forecasting 8-12 inches, which will make travel very dangerous especially for the guys leaving the reunion. Unfortunately most of them have no where to go should they decide to leave tonight, except directly into the storm. The track appears to be on pace to put the NE Reunion location on the east side of the storm, which is not the side you'd pick if given a choice. Be safe guys.
Have we heard from anyone down in the Carolinas / VA area that may have been in the path? Mike |

Here in the middle of the State of NC-- We just got cloudy skies and wind. No Tornados this time at the Mabe Household. Fixed 3 lawnmowers,a weedeater,and winterized the pool.
Going to Ocean Isle Beach,NC Labor Day at our friends condo on the Intracoastal Waterway for ONE LAST Fling!

Got by without a scratch, being about 35 miles from the coast. Wind gust were at 50 mph, most of Friday and all day Saturday. We got less rain than expected, about 3 1/2". Just some limbs and lots of leaves to get up. I'm glad none of the leaves stuck to the house this time. No shingles blown off, several of my neighbors have trees down, and the power was off for 7 hours, so I used my generator for the second time since I finally got one about 7 years ago . Marty, you should stop by Lake Waccamaw on your way to the beach, a small detour.

It looks like we made it through Irene unscathed here in CT! We pulled the boats through some pretty heavy rain coming back from NH on Sat night, but got everything tucked away before the winds hit hard. Water levels rose quite a bit, but seem to have started going back down, at least on our lake. Rivers in the area should be cresting pretty soon.
Normally the surface of my dock is 6-12" above the water- we dont get much fluctuation here to speak of. Yesterday afternoon, it was about knee deep when standing on it. Lots of docks in my cove floated up and washed away... good thing I had plenty of rocks and cinder blocks to keep it down. I was hoping the '90 was going to stay on the lift, but the water got too high and it ended up at the buoy... it was still there this morning, so I guess my anchor did its job. 
Just one major branch down next door, doesnt look like the damage is too bad. Tonight we'll be trying to get dad's docks situated before the water comes down too much.

Glad to hear everyone seems to have come through relatively unscathed. I became much more relieved over the weekend as I started to get very few reports from our customers about system outages. Public Safety Radio Systems tolerate rain pretty well and generally sites are located way above flood plains. Wind is a different story, it tends to knock things off the tower.
Anyway, its funny to see the 90 floating out there in the middle with no other boats around, looks kind of lonely. Tim, you should go rip a set! |

We had light rain all the way home and got our stuff put away before it started. I think they did a great job warning people, around here at least. Everything they predicted happened just the way they said. Just about every boat on our side of Sebago got pulled, (that's got to be hundreds), so there were very few boat washed up on shore. The shore in direct line of the open lake had 5-6' waves and there were huge waves way out. I saw 2 guys putting in jet skis during the height of it. Tim, you kept the 90 on a mooring during the storm?

Mother Nature is a big'ol girl and she hit us right in the lips. We just got power back. There's an older man across the feild that's on a ventilator and that warranted 911 power priorty. The linemen that got us power are HEROS. It looks like a bomb went off. I live on a 1/2 mile loop dirt road. On the pavement between our road and the next road 17 trees were across on the power lines (in 200 yds.) the road has 1 open lane and to get to hwy 17 (main road 14 mi.) you cross downed power lines 8 times. The county water supply lost a 1/2 millon gals. of water.
There's so many trees tangled up on our 2 1/2 acer lot, I'm guessing 12 to 15. |

Steve, Ive got one of the few tourney boats still in the lake this week... I may have to go tear it up!
Bruce, the plan was for the boat to stay on the lift. It would have been fine there until the water level rose to the point where the boat would have floated off... at which point I put it out at the mooring. Im fairly well protected in my cove- the picture was taken during the worst part of the day (NNW winds), so it never got too bad. As of last night, the water level was back down to near-normal levels... only ankle deep water over my dock now. We'll start reassembly tonight- hope to be back to normal by the weekend. |

It was pretty bad here in upstate NY. In the Albany area are the Hudson and Mohawk rivers and they meet in the Albany suburbs. Both are flooded and the Mohawk got it the worst.
Here is a local landmark, Jumpin Jack's drive in on the Mohawk River. This is where the Water Ski Show team practices and performs. They won't be doing any more of that this year.

Last night we got a roofing contractor from Lake Lure (10hrs away) to tarp the roof. No power most everywhere, 30 mi to get gas. But the National Guard is now here giving out water, food and ice. Hickory Point is now an island in the Pamlico and still some people won't leave.
Theres still a few people out from work, but were bouncing back. (like a basketball with a nail hole)

I was able to surf successfully last weekend behind the 230, but I don't think my skills are refined enough to try to take on Sebago Lake during a hurricane. It definitely would have been fun to try though.

Just got notice that my lake is closed through the weekend because of high water. (Similar to Tims) Might be difficult for the seasonals that pull out on Labor Day.

The flood damage from Irene in Vermont is unbelievable. Our system of rails and roads were built in valleys next to streams. Streams became raging rivers. Entire towns are still unreachable by truck. We've been working all over the state running and splicing fiber optic cable through the trees bypassing pole lines that we're washed away with the roads to reestablish communications. Miles of roads are just gone. Us 4 the main east to west highway in the state will be closed for months according to road crews.
This is just one section of RT 4 wiped out. Miles left to pull out of the river and rebuild. 
Found this glastron and trailer a half mile away from the nearest house. 
The white river is usually waist deep under this bridge rose twenty five feet and came over the deck. 
These are just from a couple of areas I've worked. 80 hours under my belt countless miles from the top of the state to the bottom. The whole state has damage like this. Just got to the point that I stopped taking pictures. this bridge came from my in laws(surfnturf) next door neighor the road into our town of lincoln surfnturf's son reporting on CNN. This is the bridge to get to their house.(the southwind lives there!) |
