Question for the GM guys, I have the leftovers from a cracked Vortec 350, a guy around here has a 1980 Gm 350 and wants to buy the heads, cam and roller lifters.

Questions:
Do the roller lifters fit in the 1980 block? does the retainer for the lifters work?

what about the rods are the same for the old engine and the Vortecs?

any input is welcome, as I dont want to sell him something he wont use.

thanks in advance.

Rods and heads will work but you will have to utilize an after marked roller deal if you want a roller motor as the OEM roller setup requires a retainer in the lifter valley that the older motor block will not accommodate. Other wise a set of vortec heads will work with a standard flat tappet set up, also keep in mind that a Vortec intake manifold will be in the future.
Hobby Boats can be expensive when the hobbyist is limited on their own skill and expertise.

Jodi, thanks for answering, I suggested him getting a performer intake. what do you think is there other better?

What about the cam? will he be able to use the roller cam with flat tappets? (I guess not)
Cant the retainer for the roller tappets be adapted in the old block? maybe a different retainer is available?

I believe there is a boss in the valley that can be drilled and tapped to accomadate the hold down for the roller lifters

Great, I just dont want this guy to buy the stuff, dismantle his engine and then find out he wont be able to use the parts, all pretty expensive stuff if done right, the gasket set itself costs a little fortune.

Really weird how this block cracked, as being MPI and roller there's zero wear on the parts... If only I had a block available I'd had swapped parts, but maybe it's better just selling them
