I was perusing craigslist and stumbled on a 76 33' carver mariner. Fiberglass hulled, Twin 351's fresh water cooled. Not sure on marinizer, transmissions, or v-drives. Since our crew no longer has a place on the lake, we have been using my father in laws 21' gayliner cuddy moored as a mothership for our lake adventures. The carver would be a giant step up and give us a legit place to stay at the lake for a weekend. What should I be looking for besides bad stringers, bent prop, shafts, struts? Leaking manifolds? Cracks in gel coat? Anyone heard any horror stories on a boat like this? Someone talk some sense into me before I buy a old yacht.

Skin grows back...fiberglass doesn't!!

Calculate what it will cost for a slip, tax, insurance, fuel & maintenance. You can probably stay at a pretty nice resort for the same money.

We have a family friend who owned a cabin cruiser. This is how he described: "Imagine taking everything in your wallet, and dumping it into the lake every weekend."

I'd recommend the same as SNobsessed; DON'T DO IT!!!!!

If you don't mind another money pit, then why not?
