The ARE drive shaft finally arrived, and I must say I'm happy with the decision to get one. I've got the strut aligned/shimmed and ready for the 4200. Since I have the gas tank out and the 4200 will be ready to go, I'm planning on installing my swim platform this evening as well.
 I haven't cleaned the scum off the side of the boat and it shows the water line. How far above the waterline should the swim platform rest? I was planning on measuring from the top lip and going downward to get the platform even. A level probably isn't of much use since the boat is probably not perfectly seated on the trailer. Should I use the 4200 or 5200, I have both? Do I put it on the entire bracket, or just the bolts? Anything I need to be careful for when drilling? Thanks, Dan |

Dan, what system of brackets are you going to be using? How many brackets,,, 3 or 4? Who made them?
Does your boat float even with the boot stripe? To me the platform should really one sit an inch or so above the waterline at rest, but that's a preference thing. Once you drill the holes, there's no going back. I've seen platforms that are mounted way to high and some that sink under when someone is sitting in the back.. The first thing is to really mark where the waterline is while the boat's in the water. If you've already done that on both sides, you're ready to go.. I used 5200 to seal in around the bracket and the bolts.. Moj' |

There are four brackets in the system. I bought the platform and brackets from Gringit a few months back.
I've got to finish installing the underwater gear, then I'll drop it in the check on the waterline. Don't want to guess incorrectly. The boot stripe adds 15-20 horsepower. |

Judging by the scum line and boot stripe location, I would say that the SW and BFN have similar geometry on the stern, as expected. Our platform is now several inches out of the water, which works well. We did lighten up the structure a bit though. I would shoot to have an inch or 2 of white showing beneath the boot stripe above the platform. That should put the brackets pretty far down the hull. Here are a few pics of our '79 BFN for reference. I would say that the lower stripe location should be darn close to the early 70's boot stripe placement, if not exactly the same.
