    Posted: July-25-2013 at 1:16am
I would love to find a replacement for the steering wheel "ring" for a 1988 SN2001. The black plastic ring (7 hole) has cracked, and allows for some in-out play in the steering wheel.
I guess the entire steering wheel could be replaced, but I really hope there is a replacement part somewhere. Picture below...

I have seen a 6-hole replacement on several Nautique part web sites, but I do not think this part will fit.
Does anyone know where I can find/buy a replacement steering wheel ring for a 1988 SN2001? A new steering wheel ring in stainless would be awesome!

A picture of the web store ring available is below....

You don't think the replacement part will fit because....?

The replacement part shown above has the wrong hole pattern.... unless I am missing something.

The only replacement part I have seen (earlier post) also does not indicate a model year. It looks like it is for a newer year model nautique steering wheel, not the 1988 SN2001.

I am willing to take a chance on the part listed above if anyone thinks it will work ($29 for the part), before buying a complete new steering wheel.

I can count to 7, so I know that ring wont fit your wheel. There is no known source for those yet, but it wouldnt be too difficult for a machine shop to reproduce it out of aluminum. If you get some made, you could probably sell a few. Thats the route I'd go rather than buying a whole new wheel... but if you decide against it, I'd be interested in purchasing your old one!

Wonder if i should talk with Alloy Marine about getting one made up for those boats.

I have no clue why they switched to a plastic ring in 87ish instead of aluminum like my boat.

I would be willing to take mine apart for a winter project.

I assume that is the same 7-hole pattern as the one on my '93 sport. If so I would be interested in one of those.

It is a group buy! Thanks for those who can count. My cell phone screen is too tiny, and my eyes too old, to pick up those little details. On my PC, I can see now my original question was dumb.

Off to the weekend I go!

Steve, The hubs for the 6 bolt style are for splined shaft. I think thats the problem we have.

Reproduction would be best..... but there are a lot of wheels, hubs and trim rings out there. Slotted, splined...5,6,7,8 bolt... many choices but original repro would be easiest, for sure.

Do you have the retainer for sale? Do you have a picture and a price?

An "original" plastic part is better than no part at all and should work until Zach or someone else comes up with an aluminum or stainless replacement part.

Thanks!!!

Did the CNC aluminum replacement idea ever work out? The plastic ring on my steering wheel is cracked/broken and I'd like to get a replacement. I've got the 7-hole and not the 6 hole steering wheel.

Bump on this. Did anyone ever get a metal steering wheel ring made up or know where to get one for 1993 SN or similar (7 bolt holes)?

Thanks!

Maybe a call to Grant Steering Wheels? If that fails you can always try VIPwheels but they don’t make boat wheels—they have lots of hubs and parts around their factory if someone wants to go looking.
