The previous owner of my 1982 2001 installed an edelbrock semi hi rise manifold, the engine cover would not close so he put a 2x4 under the rear of the engine cover and bolted the hinges to it.
Does anyone know if there is a shorter spark arrestor I could use to get rid of the 2x4?

George,
Yes there are low profile arrestors. Some searching on site will get you the exact answer. It sounds like the PO did some hack work! Did he hard line the high pressure side of the fuel pump to the carb? If not and he ran rubber hose, it may be against USCG regs and you may be driving a potential bomb. How about some pictures?
