So we just towed the Sport Nautique from ATL to Orlando with the new Tahoe.
13,5 mpg and it was a peace of cake

sorry for the delayed answer, have been busy wakeboarding for the 1st time (starting with wake skating and then moving to bindings made that easy...)

I truly envy all you folks who live in FL!
My new goal is to get a job down here!

Another Tahoe LTZ owner, previously have had a couple Suburbans, all of which have been really great, well built and dependable vehicles. You can get close to 20mpg but really need to be delicate with the throttle, towing MPG is horrible if you are hauling azz, only lose a few MPG towing if driving moderately.

Here is my little Liberty, poised for battle. The 3.7 V6 is a great compromise, you get the power output of a large 4 cylinder with the fuel consumption of a V8

But, it's very parallel-park-able in the city and great in the snow. It tows just ok, but it does the trick.

Depending on the grade of your driveway you may want to consider one of these.http://www.amazingfind.us/p/Tow-Tuff-Tmd-600aff-Adjustable-Dolly-Trailer-33830716.html

I use one to maneuver my boats within the garage with relative ease.

I have looked at those, and thought that the motorized version would be a good idea.    We have a decent slope to our driveway, and the surface is grass, so I have been considering building my own motorized version and putting a motorcycle disk brake set up on it.

I do have a certain amount of reservation about trying it out, as I can just see myself sending the boat through the back wall of the garage if something got out of hand.    over all though.... that looks slick!

I have one of those dollars as well. It works great on level surfaces, but anything more than a VERY slight slope, forget it. Pushing is difficult even with help but the real concern is stopping- esp with the boat coming towards you. I'm not sure a motorized version would be much better unless it was pretty beefy. Thus is where a lawn tractor with a hitch really shines.

I like this one, but I agree with you on the braking side of using it.   unfortunately no room for a lawn tractor or a 4x4 quad, although those have both crossed my mind.... I think I'll have to stick with multipurpose for now and get a Daily driver that will work.

I use garden tractors for moving boats all the time, makes things very easy as long as I stay off of steep hills. Here's one of them, with my designated driver showing off her skills with the blade:

I took an old snowblower apart and installed an old trailer dolly wheel and ball where auger was.work great in tight spaces.just like expensive power dolly at a fraction of cost. Also put hitch on front of lawn tractor makes things a lot easier to maneuver.

That snowblower idea is genius, really like it!

On the front hitch on lawn tractor, don't you lose most of your traction with the weight on the front wheels?

I had an ancient Wheelhorse tractor plus my big a** over the rear wheels had no issues on flat ground.Backing up with a tractor in tight quarters is PITA with such a short wheelbase but really easy with hitch up front where you can see what you are doing .My garage is real tight trailer fenders just clear getting in and out takes s couple tries with car to get just right but with snowblower/dolly or tractor with front hitch can zip it right in 1st try.

Has anyone ever towed a boat with a VW T4 syncro (4wd) van? I think you call them 'vanagons' in the US. I've been toying with the idea of swapping for my discovery as always fancied one and could do with the extra space.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLKSWAGEN-TRANSPORTERS-4-SALE-FROM-1250-5K-SYNCRO-NOW-SOLD-/261353739941?pt=UK_Commercial_Trucks&hash=item3cd9e596a5

I'm guessing would be under powered for pulling the Tique though

We had a fleet of International 1900 single axle city tractors with the DT466 at one of the the trucking companies i worked at back in the late 70s to mid 80s. They were bulletproof and a pleasure to drive. The turbo sounded sweet too.

I remember wayyy back in 4th grade our bus driver got a new bus. It was an International. My grandpa told me to look at the side of the hood and see what it said. I told him "3800" and "DT466". The engine sounded sweet and was rather quick (for a bus).

Now I look at every single International vehicle to see if it has the DT466. Always proud to see that badge.

Are the trucks in the picture modified or was that a stock vehicle that could be bought? What is it called?
