I have a 93sncb with a 351. After the boat runs for about 5 miners or so, the boat shuts off. Sometimes it will start back up sometimes not.

We ran a wire to the positive side of the battery and then to the hot side of the coil. It seams to help, but the problem still happens.

Last summer I hade replaced amongst everything plugs points, wires, fuel filter, but the coil I put on 2 years ago is an automotive MSD coil it worked fine for a year.

I am out of ideas and I have several upset teenagers that want to go skiing. please help.

when it shuts off is the coil hot? not a little warm, too hot to keep your hand on...also, have you checked the voltage from the ignition and into the coil? what does the inside of the distributor look like? corrosion? moisture?

Forgive me for asking the dumb question, but are you sure its spark, and not fuel?

The coil is warm but not too hot, I was just concerned that it is a automotive coil and it is laying down. I'm leaning towards either the coil or the wire supplying it. I have replaced everything else, cap, rotor, plugs, wires 2 years ago. I suppose I could still have a cap/rotor problem. I will check that tomorrow. What should the voltage be coming out of the coil?

I'm not really sure of everything. Lol I have changed the fuel filter about 4 years ago. I'm pretty picky about what kind if fuel I put in in. Only ethanol free, never pump gas. But that is another item I will check tomorrow. Thanks.

Wait, if you have a positive wire going directly from your batter + to your coil +, how does it ever shut off? Sounds like you've circumvented your ignition switch.

You probably need a different coil as well. Talk to Zach at N3 or Vince at Skidim about getting you the right coil.

This is a handy tool to see if you're getting spark. You can leave it connected for a while. When the boat is acting up, see if you're still getting spark.

Also, give us some pics of your dizzy (distributor), coil, ballast resister and wiring to them.

We just ran a wire to the coil to try to eliminate an issue with the ignition.

You might also take the flame arrestor off (when it is in-op)& see if the accel pump can squirt gas.   If not, pour a little (very little) gas down the carb, put the FA back on & see if it starts.   You could have a restricted anti siphon valve or a clogged vent.

So your '93 has points? Did you retro an old dizzy in place of the protec? Another long shot could be a bad condenser.
