1988 Ski Nautique 2001 is running hot at idle but not when I'm underway. I've replaced the impellar made sure it was installed the corect way, tightened all the hoses. Like stated I can run the boat, pull kids but 30 seconds or so after idleing the temp shoots up and I have to shut the boat off. Any ideas? Thanks

If all the hoses are good and tight as you say then check the strainer is not loose, cracked or has a bad/missing gasket. You are getting air from somewhere, start over. Trans cooler fittings in good shape?

+1 on what Kevin says. Also may have a leak in the RWP shaft seal. Disconnect the inlet hose to the RWP from the cooler and do the bucket test. If it cools at idle then you know the RWP and the hose hooked to it is good. Then you know you have an issue somewhere between the cooler and the hull fitting. |

When people run down to the lake to see what's making that noise, you've succeeded.

Thanks guys I'll check the trans hoses and then do the bucket test. Could the RWP be the problem? Even with the new impellar, could the tolerences internally be such that it's not "feeding" the engine at idle?

If that were the case it would overheat at high speed.
