Has anybody used red cedar for stringer and floor supports? Does fiberglass bond to it?

Greetings Ron, please don't consider using red cedar. It is not near strong enough regardless of epoxy adhesion

I think the cedar is too hard, it breaks and splits. I would use cypress before I would use red cedar.

Thanks, I have about 1600 board feet laying around. I will use cypress or fur.

How will does cypress work? Fur is harder to comeby down here.

My feeling Ron is that the oils in the cypress may interfere with the fiberglass bond. You might want to read up on that. There are many good stringer reads here.

No on the Red Cedar. I agree with the other comments about it being too oily for the resin to bond. The Cypress would be a good choice. Make sure you check the moisture content with a GOOD meter. You want it at least below 8%.
