I'm finishing up a 351W engine build for my 73 Ski Nautique and have gathered from reading here that it'd be smart to replace the damper plate. What do I need to know about the type, which is the best brand, and where should I get it? |

The Sachs/alta damper for the velvet drives is both high quality and reasonably priced. Ebasicpower sells both the full leg version and the trimmed version. SkiDIM sells the full leg only (it is easy to trim yourself with an angle grinder if need be). They only list it as being applicable to Chevy engines, but it is in fact universal.

I see the 1516 and the 31011 on the SkiDIM site.
I don't want to have to grind anything if I can help it. My fly wheel measures 13.25" in diameter. The 31011 says "improved and stronger" Also says it will appear to "interfear" hahaha, appropriate... but will work fine... "bolt on and go ski" Old damper: |

As Tim suggested - go with basic power for the trimmed version.

Paul,
Damper selection is by the number of splines on the trans and not engine. Your old is not a Sachs. As Tim states, go to Ebasic for the universal. No grinder! how about a hack saw? Borrow one or go for the trimmed version. |

Thanks Peter.
I counted 26 and ordered the universal ALTDA-106. I'll be grinding after-all. |
