I'm waiting on a few skins from Christine's and my back seat rest is getting worse by the day. I'm want to save the foam but am at that point where the foam is so exposed it may need replaced. Will duct tape suffice until I can get the skins. They are pretty far behind and are terrible at returned calls about vinyl eta and status. Seems like really great people but obviously buried. I took home ec instead of shop for the girls and dad tought me enough about shop that there wasn't much of a need for shop classes. Maybe my sewing skills could start a new business as there is clearly plenty of work to be had Jk!

Like Grandma's couch, a clear plastic slip cover. If duct tape maybe just tape visqueen to the remaining vinyl, would not want it sticking to the foam if it could be avoided.

Seen lots of duct tape used but it makes a huge mess. Take it out if you're that worried about the foam getting destroyed.

Based on my experience this is apparently the case for everyone involved in the boating industry. The car industry isn't much better! Pretty amazing, really. |

Get some cheap vinyl locally & just cut/sew the corners for a slip fit over the old skin. Put in a few staples for good luck. Don't leave it on f0r too long otherwise mildew will have a field day.

The leather in my truck especially the drivers side decided to dry out and split several years ago. I slipped canvas backing between the skins and the foam and then used fabric glue. It's been working great

Tried duct tape with failure. The glue didn't go everywhere but it didn't stick at all. After trying and coming out to remove cover the next day it all had just shriveled up and fell on the floor. Went with $5 of marine vinyl from Jo Ann Fabrics and tried to iron it on. The iron on stuff seemed more like a hold in place while stitching something together than a good adhesive. It would work fine on cloth but didn't stick well to the vinyl. I cleaned the vinyl with MEK and ended up using 2 coats of Permatex Heavy Duty Body Shop Headliner and Carpet adhesive on each piece waiting 5 minutes between coats and then 5 minutes before connecting the 2 parts. If I had more hands it would have gone on straight but once the contact happened it wasn't going to budge. Not bad for a hack job. Thanks and also to my friend Tim for his thoughts.
This should save the foam until the skins arrive.
