I'm noticing a nauseating exhaust when riding with my son in a tube. I don't notice it when skiing. Is it just because I'm sitting down low or is my engine running rich? Is that normal. 99 Sport Nautique.

Hi. Welcome to CCF. What motor and carb are you running? Did you notice any black smoke at tube speed? Is the motor running abnormally at lower speeds? Is the choke opening all the way?
....and the adventure continues.

It's fuel injected 5.8 Gt40. That's why I'm baffled. I'm wondering if I'm just noticing it because I'm down low on a tube or if there's some sort of adjustment that could be made. It's pretty much running fine.

You could always add a Fresh Ar Exhaust

I'm with JPASS. Add Fresh Air Exhaust. I put it on my 82sn and love it. The main reason we got it was that we surf. That said, It quiets down the engine noise, and it puts the exhaust out right behind the rudder in the prop wash which pushes it out way past the back of the boat. We had the kids tubing today and no issues at all. I love the addition of the FAE system. Installed it myself in about an hour. Its easy and they already have most measurements needed for most boats. I would at least check into it. I feel it was differently worth it.

well I guess A: don't tube ( someone had to say it)
i had the FAE on our boat and it makes it quiet and no fumes at the back
but it takes top speed off the boat and throws a larger rooster tail
so a few weeks ago it came off and I again love the sound of the engine

I would normally never tube but the little ones like it. It doesn't seem to bother them. But it about ruins the experience for me.

I think you are correct in trying to find the reason for exhaust problem and not mask it with FAE. In the meantime try lengthening the tube rope and increase boat speed to diminish CO exposure.
