I need help with my 351W in a 1986 Martinique. Runs & stars great. Take a three mile run around the lake and shut her off and she refuses to start.

I would swap the coil out. Cheap and easy and my $ is on a fix.
I do not know if he will go that far from Orlando, But "Bull", of Bulls Inboard Mobile, BIMP is a good guy. You might also drag it to him. 407 855 2115 There may be guys around Winter haven, send a pm to Jbear. Good Luck. |

Swap out the coil and you may be back in the same situation. The ignition system is notoverly complicated on these machines. That Bull guy should be able to sort it out.

When it refuses to start you could - check for spark. If you don't have it then its an ignition issue. If you have spark then it is fuel related, look down the carb and see if it is dripping. If it is dripping then you are flooded, if it isn't dripping see if you can see gas squirt when someone advances the throttle. You could give this to a mechanic, but its a tough problem to recreate in his shop.

Jerry, Bob started a new thread on the same problem so you may have missed it.In his other thread that's been running for several days, Bob already changed the coil. I hope your guy can help since we've been trying to get Bob to simply isolate whether the problem is ignition or fuel related but he seems not to be taking our suggestions. |

I will put the boat in the water next week and leave on the trailer and fire her up. Bring it up to operating temp of 160-170 and shut it off then look for spark again. I guess I will pull a plug and look for spark? No Spark it's the replacement Electronic Ignition or the coil. (Just replaced the coil and it acted the same as before)
Is there any electronic cut off''s in the shift mechanism either in the helm or on the actual engine? Thank you all for BRAINSTORMING! Commodore Bob |

Bob, The only device associated with shifting is the NSS (neutral safety switch) and it ONLY interrupts the starter circuit preventing cranking the engine. They don't want you to start the engine in gear which could cause a problem! |

I've been contemplating using Hueston Mastercraft in Lake Wales for service. I would call them but remind them the prop turns right.

my guy is Eddie Olson..backfoot100. He is better than a mechanic 'cause he keeps my boat runnnig sweet and he don't charge me. Of course we do ski together alot so he has a vested interest in keeping my boat running good. The only reason he lets me under the motor box is to make sure the plug is in. I live in Lake Wales...home of Huston Motors. They used to be a Correct Craft dealer but now handle Master Craft. Have not heard anything about their service...good or bad. But if you come this way....it would be cool to meet you for a cup of coffee while they work on your boat. john |
