Art what a great piece of history/internal knowledge! That completely makes sense. It would be interesting to run those two boats side by side and see how the characteristics of the wakes change - or maybe it really doesn't matter as in the ski school scenario there was probably always a driver and a coach/observer. Still GREAT info!!!

Leo is quite a guy. Perhaps you know that he is about 93 y.o. and a ball of fire. Plays court tennis and tournament table tennis. He has dozens, maybe hundreds of photos from his ski school. Many customers like Debbie Reynolds and Eddy Fischer posing on his dock.

Just think how many guys out there like Leo that have boxes and boxes of pictures of stuff that someday will be lost forever, not just waterskiing but all sorts of activities. In this case, I would love to get those boxes of pictures and scan them all in, just to be preserved. I know it would probably never happen, but if the opportunity ever presents itself, I would be happy to graciously and carefully honor him by completing that task.

Similar offer to you Art and your little museum of Correct Craft information. I hope someday someone takes the time to scan all those file cabinets of information to a digital format. I know fewer and fewer people are interested in all that old stuff, but it is valuable information and someday someone might just really need it. Same offer stands!

has anyone thought of sending this story to a boating mag for publication? It would be nice to see a big spread of the entire restoration.

Unfortunately I haven't really started yet, Time and funding are always a problem.   I think it will be next year before it makes its way into the shop.

As for sending it to a magazine that's really just 15 minutes of fame. The guys that really care about the boat are right here so I'll start a new thread here when the resto begins for all to follow along.   If the boat is worthy the publications will seek it out.

I agree Pete, Those guys are pretty down to earth and embrace all brands of boats.   They will find it when it's done, That's what they did with the Hurricane.

Not to hijack this thread, but, Pete I just negotiated a deal on a 2019 crosstrek for my mom. It was a process. But it’s a great car and perfect for where my mom lives. Alan you do great work. It’s worth the wait.

I didn't mean it should not be containing in this forum, but it does take a lot of clicking going from page to page and at times going around comments that do not pertain to the restoration.   Having this in a book or magazine would make it much clearer to see and appreciate. I definitely will be following it however it is published.

A magazine will not detail the full restoration like a thread here in CCfan will. Have you seen any of the detailed threads here? Alan's thread on his Hurricane is a perfect example.

The other problem is magazines are now such a nitch market, pretty hard just to pick up that ONE issue of the one particular item you want to read. Playboy is a fine example of how magazines and print in general have fallen. Advertising has taken over alot of the content too,some of the ones my wife buys seem to be nothing but.

A little update on #1. Sort of a bitter sweet day for me but due to several reasons beyond my control I have sold #1.

The boat is going to fellow ccfan Jim Huss (Hussler). Jim is a service technician for Miami Nautiques and he and the owner are going to get the boat running with a y block and leave the rest of the boat in it's un-restored state and display the boat along with a story board in their pro shop at the dealership. There is talk of bringing it to some dealer meetings, etc in the future. The dealership is minutes from the site where Leo ran his ski school which is really cool too.

It took some long consideration to let the boat go but I was having no luck in getting started on the project and it started to look like it might be several years before I had any time to devote to it. Overall as much as this kills me to let the boat go I feel as good about this option as I possibly could so good luck to Jim the proud new caretaker of our #1.

best of all, I touched base with Art Cozier and have his blessing about the deal. He's known the owner at Miami Nautiques since they opened the dealership years ago and as always offered up his bottomless resources to Jim and Henrich.

best of luck guys, I know it's going to be a long month waiting for me to get the boat ready to travel but it will be worth it.

I'm so thrilled to carry on this boats legacy! Truly serendipitous that this whole deal worked outI. If anyone wants to visit it it will spend most of its days sitting on our Proshop floor, getting a light restoration.
I want to restore the lettering delicately and to make it look "useable"., like it's ready to go right back to ski school!

To me, it's like the Bullitt Mustang, it would be such a shame to sand off such an original finish and 60 years of hard earned patina.

I'm not sure to what caliber I should restore the motor. Since the motor box is closed most of the time I could do a beautiful restore on the motor and nobody would be the wiser. Or I could rebuild it but leave it unpainted/rough edges, give it a worn look to match the boat.

Two things that I really cant settle on:
Should the windshield stay or be replaced ?
Looks like it might have some plastic faria gauges installed, if that's so I'd want to replace them, but with what? I'd like the whole scheme of the boat to have that original barn find luster to it

Glad to get to work on an antique boat again, all the tech on the new Nautiques just doesnt have the soul that you feel when working on something with history. Cant wait to see it in person!

I'll try to update as much as I can, it's been a crazy busy season in Miami with this stupid Covid virus, everybody wants to be on a boat!

The original instruments were plain-jane Stewart-Warner; chrome bezels, black background faces with white needles and lettering. We need to talk about engines. I have about 3 and a half Interceptors in my possession, some 292, at least one 312, the others unknown as of now. There is a shop in Orlando that I deal with called Powered By Ford; a two-man shop where the owner is a genius on the Y-block engines. We need to talk. Is the boat in Miami yet? If not, how is it to be transported?

Hey Mr. Cozier, Alan gave me your contact number, I'd love to pick your brain!
Alan is in the process of repairing the trailer and swapping out the 302 that is in it to a Y block.

I am planning to get one of the factory Nautique transporters to go get it for us, sadly I just dont have the time to drive up and make an adventure out of it, we are completely backed up here at Miami Nautique, 5 weeks out if you scheduled an appointment today!

I still remember quite a bit about the old Y blocks but it never hurts to have more info.

Alan did a great job prefacing this thread so I dont see why not to just post all the updates here, I'll just have to fix my photobucket account

Huss, that's a good plan to have one of the transporters bring it back. I'm sure that Alan will properly prepare the trailer for the trip. I'd love to see the boat if and when the transporter passes through Orlando if it is on his route. Not a long stop, even roadside if he wants, just a quick look so that when you and I talk about it I have a mental picture and maybe some photos of what things look like.

The transporter was able to make a last minute run to Chicago, and is trying to make his best time to get here by Friday, cant wait to see her! Been a long time coming!

I leave for vacation Saturday so I will try and upload some pics Friday night before I fly out!
