Are you looking for a new one? You won't find many places selling a new one with a 351w reverse rotation gear on it. More places sell one for a normal rotation 351w and you'd have to switch gears if you have a good reverse rotation gear to put on it. Are you looking for an electronic or breaker point setup? Discount Inboard Marine will sell you a Reverse rotation Mallory electronic distributor that's USCG approved. You can find NOS Prestolite's with points on EBAY cheap but most of those have the wrong gear and you'd have to do a gear swap if you have a good reverse rotation gear. DUI (Performance Distributors) will sell you a reverse rotation HEI distributor for a 351w.that a number of people here use and like a lot. They (DUI) meet USCG requirements but they aren't certified by the USCG. Kinda a fine line between "meets the requirements" and "certified". Certified means that it has undergone the appropriate testing by someone like Underwriter's Labs to demonstrate that it meets the SAE J1171 specs.for being ignition protected and little sticker that goes with it. Meets the requirements to me means it's built according to the requirements but the company hasn't spent the gazillion bucks that the testing costs to get that SAE J1171 approval. There are a number of companies selling distributors that meet the requirements. "Meets the requirements" must be OK legally or they wouldn't have been selling them for marine use for the last several years now.. But anyway, not many out there with a Reverse rotation gear already installed. |

You could also get a distributor with a normal rotation gear and if you have your RH gear, have a machine shop fit it correctly.
That opens the door to more choices like a Pertronix or MSD marine distributor You could send a PM to "Duane in Indy" who is a retired machinist and ask if he'd do it for you. It wouldn't be the first time he's done this for somebody on the forum |
