2016 Christmas Tree cutting with the family. This is the kind of family events we partake in when the lakes are turning to ice and the boat is in the garage. This location is in California at the very southern end of the Cascade Mountain range just north of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The photos are at an altitude of 6800 ft..
The weekend prior to Thanksgiving 2.5 to 3 ft. of snow dumped and co-workers were unable to reach this location. Seven day after the storm I found my co-workers at the summit with chains on all four wheels. The snow had settled to 14+ inches. The Tundra with 35in. tires had more ground clearance then the two 3/4 tons and with chains on the rear axle we were able to advance another 1/4 mile up another section of mountain to the location in the pictures. Brings back some great memories with our family going out in the woods for our Christmas tree. As the kids got older, the excitement dwindled and I started to hear something along the line of "dad, just go out and buy a tree this year!"
Also the memories of the days back when I lived in Montana having to chain up all 4 to get into and out of my house!! Plowing didn't work for very long since I lived in a canyon where the wind would drift the snow over in very little time. |

Great traditions, great fun, great memories. That being said, ask me how much I miss the snow.

It was a good day. My son was able to sled in the packed tire tracks back down the mountain for a 4 mile sled ride. He thought it was great. I am sure in a year or two I will have to let my son take over the challenge of driving us up the mountain in the snow. I will make sure I have a good shovel and tow chains for that adventure.

WOW, makes me feel kind of bad from complaining about breaking out the three year old fake three piece pre-lite tree. I had that sucker together in five minutes and my wife and daughters spent the afternoon putting the decorations on it.
Great family you have !!!!!!!!! |

The Daniels are a little bolder than we were, heading up into the mountains to get their tree (not entirely unlike the Griswalds . We have enjoyed the tree hunting/cutting experience, but a little more timid version at the local tree farm. I am going to guess this is about 1992. Great memories.

HD has better trees! I always liked the trees we got out in the woods since they aren't pruned so there's more hanging room for ornaments. |

There are definitely times I wish I was not in the snow/ice. I would love to live my summers in Juneau Alaska and surrounding areas and winter in Maui Hawaii. |
