    Posted: March-11-2017 at 4:12pm

The First Annual CorrectCraftFan.com West Coast Reunion has a date set for July 29, 2017. It will be located in beautiful Lake Almanor California. So get your reservations at a local camp sites or hotel. There are other places to stay in the area if you do your own searches. There are lake side lodges, private home rentals, and private camp grounds all on the lake shore. Chester is a small community just off of the lake shore about 15-20 min. to a boat ramp. Plumas Pines resort has cabin rentals and docking. Susanville is 45-60 min from a boat ramp. Greenville is about 20-30 min. from a boat ramp.

Come up and enjoy the cooler weather and cool clean waters of Lake Almanor. It is located at the foot of Mt. Lassen at an elevation of 4500 ft. In the mountains you must always be prepared for any type of weather, hot days and cool mornings and evenings, bring sweat shirts, and jackets even though the California Valley temps are reaching over 100 degrees this time of year. There will be more details available as the date approaches.

Below, I have listed a few hotels and Rocky Point Camp Ground as just ideas of places to stay..

July West Coast, I will drive up for a few days. Keep me informed of details. We are in Huntington Beach so most likely drive up the day before.

Since I have set a date for The West Coast Correct Craft Fan Reunion there has not been much talk on here about this event. Is this due to a lack of interest? Large distances that many would need to travel? Does the July 29 not work for people? Another possible date would be August 12 if that works better for people, let me know.

I remember you saying that there could still be swim meets still going on. Soccer season starts for my family within a week or two of the event and Hot August Nights is also that time of year.

Lake Almanor is warming up. We went out skiing yesterday in full suits. We were the only ones in the water. Temp outside was 70, the water temp was 60 when we arrived and in the shallow areas was up to 66 by the end of the day.

We are going to need some volunteers to bring some food. I think for the most part if people bring food for themselves and something to share will be a great way to start the first year. To start the morning off having some quick easy things like muffins, donuts, fruit, juices, coffee, as skiers may want to take advantage of the early morning un-disturbed water. Lunch can be deli sandwiches from local stores that would be best purchased the night before. If someone would like to bring a gas bbq, burgers and dogs could be done and the same for dinner. Of course snacks, chips, and favorite beverage will be needed also. So please chime in as to what you will be bringing.

FYI
Anchoring of boats will be on a gradual sloping mud, rocky bottom. As seen in the photos at the top of the page bow and stern lines work best at this location. I use an Anchor Buddy with a float attached and place it in the water for the day. When I approach shore I attach the bow line to the Anchor Buddy and allow the boat to drift around until the stern is pointed at shore. Then with previously attached long stern line I reverse the boat back toward shore. Then I get into the water and walk the line to shore and attach to a shore anchor device of choice. Hope this information helps.

For Boat Tie offs with an inboard like the Ski Nautique the easy way is to buy a 5" stretch cord from a Marine Dealer. Attach the stretch cord to your anchor rope so it will be in the right spot to connect to your ski pole.   Put a ski buoy ball on the anchor rope where the stretch rope attach's so when you drive away your hook up is always visible.
Next add a hook to the spot on your anchor rope where it will attach to rear platform. I hook mine under the rear deck.   The distance from the front ski pole stretch rope to the anchor will vary depending on how deep your water is in front of the boat.   I use about 20 feet in our shallow water this works well. Also a 3 foot chain is attached to the anchor and then to the anchor rope. The weight helps the anchor stay put.
Behind the hook that attach's to the rear swim platform I have about 40 feet of rope.   This allows tie off even if you have a very shallow grade heading into shore.   Sometimes I can tie off 4 feet off shore, sometimes not depending on the water depth near shore and you need 2 feet of water to keep your prop and rudder safe, more for a larger boat.
Coming back to your anchor you can see the buoy ball drive up to it while swinging a turn. Reach down and grab the tie off rope hook it to your ski pole and you are good. When you unload at the rear getting out of the boat headed to shore hook up the second hook to your swim platform as you get out. The stretch cord allows the boat to move a little so big waves or wind does not pull your anchor out.
It works well and the rope and anchor fit under one of the rear seats so it stores out of the way.

For those arriving from out of the area on Friday 7-28-17 an evening tour of Lake Almanor would be a nice kick off and time of introductions. All boats would need to be in the water prior to 6:00 PM. If anyone is interested in a lake tour on Friday let me know.

Less than a week to the first annual Correct Craft Fan West Reunion. The location on Lake Almanor for the event will be the Caynon Dam boat launch facility, look for the Correct Craft Fan sign. the kick off time will be at 7:00 AM til when ever. If anyone would like a lake tour on Fri. 28 contact me and I will be at the same location at 6:30 PM. It should be a great weekend the weather has been hot.

Sorry you wont be able to make it. The weather has been nice and hot although windy last week, my family has been camping there about 10 days currently. I get there when I can. This week there has been no wind and thunder clouds are forming in the late afternoon.

Eh, I think it's just a tune up Pete. But I don't have time or energy to do it, and, of course, all of the decent boat mechanics around here are backed up.

I am thinking about selling my beloved SAN, however. I'm the original owner. My wife gave the go ahead. My daughter and wife are more into water skiing. Daughter has started running the course, and I'm tired of bumming ski pulls from others. Probably going to buy an SN 200. We shall see.

The morning started out to be a beautifully, warm, no wind, As I approached the public use access area boat ramp and day use area at 0730 things were different. There was a group of kayakers putting on a for profit event and attempting to shut the area down to any other people that were not part of their group. I pulled into the area anyway as I know the area is public access and first come first serve. The kayakers informed me that the area is rented by them and if you are not there for their event you would need to leave and that they did not want any power boats around their event..

The area has a on site host so I found the host and informed them of what the kayaking group was attempting to pull off. The host was not happy and went and educated the kayakers that the only thing their permit allowed them was to pay part of their proceeds to the US government for using a public facility in an attempt to make a profit. I have sent a letter to the local US Forestry department (were some of them work) and the the US Forestry in Washington as I know some of the people putting on this event are US Forestry employees attempting to take advantage of their knowledge the regulations and their willingness to lie public to run the un- knowing people out of the use area to hold a private event.

After the first 30 min. of drama the kayaking group decided they should move a little farther away from me and my ski boat that was going to rune their event, aw narrow minded discriminating types, California is full of them.

As the picture shows I was the only Correct Craft at the event. However the area did become crowded as the day went on pictures were taken at about 0830. Some co-workers showed up that were not there for the West Coast event and my family including in-laws showed up and stayed until the sun set. The water did not stay good all day. As I have stated Almanor is good early morning and right before sun set. You might as well bring a tube or surf board for the middle of the day. There were not any of the CorrectCraftFan family that showed up. Maybe next year will be different. I have some plans that we can discuss latter that may work better for some of you.

Discussion for next year, There are some issues that come up due to the mountain environment. Early season the water is cold, not a big issue but bothers some. Late season is wildfire season and if the fire is not real close but there is a fire in the area, the smoke can be bad. If there is no smoke September is the best month for skiing on Almanor, kids are back in school and the flatlanders go home and return the lake to the locals.

Rocky Point Camp Ground has turned two of their three loops into reservation only camping. This would allow individual families to reserve a camp location side by side or in various different locations throughout the camp area. I would again recommend camping for 3 days in order to do the lake justice. It is a good size body of water.

If any of the Sacramento area guys want to come check out the lake and camping situation let me know and I will tour you around on the lake so you have a better idea of what to expect.
