My 16 year old daughter was invited to ski with the Auburn University Ski Team / Club in Auburn Alabama. We traveled to Auburn Thursday night and toured the campus all day Friday. Saturday, we hooked up with the ski team at a private lake in Valley Alabama titled Divorce Lake. Five guys built the lake many years ago and named it as such because they ran into so many issues building the lake that they feared someone would get a divorce. Sunday some members of the team gave Natalie a private tour of the Football Stadium and other popular spots around campus. Needless to say, this is now Natalie's top school in her search. She is a sophomore and still has two years before college. The team was very proactive in trying to get recruits in to ski with them and attend the school and join the club. They ski in a conference with NC State, UNC, South Florida, Clemson, GA Tech and Alabama among others. They also travel to California to the Nationals each year. Last year they placed fourth in trick skiing. Saturday they did three event skiing to include jumping there were five young people they had in for the event. They really went out of their way to make everyone feel at home .
I tried hard not to make the event all about me so I did not tell the team that I still have four years of NCAA time remaining. It was for the children. Proud Pappa, Donald |

Here are some photo' from the event. You can see the ski jump in the distance. Their boat is a 2007 Master Craft 197 open bow with Zero Off. The 200 SN in the picture is the guy's boat that owns the lake. There were Auburn alumni present and some of those were pulled by the Master Craft and the SN. They also had a drone to follow many of the skiers. I am trying to get some of that footage. It was following people off the jump. Pretty cool.

Awesome!!! My dream for my son is that UL of Lafayette calls him to ski there. He'll probably want nothing to do with skiing.

Yes Lafayette was number 1 NCAA Ski Team recently. In the past Louisiana Tech was the place for skiing. My wife and Natalie visited them last year and they have not had a team for the last five or so years. They are putting a Wake Boarding Club together. My daughter wants to study Engineering and Auburn has a ton of different programs to offer Engineering Students. Louisiana Tech was her first choice until Auburn rolled out the red carpet for her. She has visited Clemson and they have a club and a new boat. I do not know which brand of boat. She has two years to work this out but she has already visited about eight schools. We visited ten with my oldest daughter. The team consisted of about 25 members with 1/2 being skiers and the others being boarders. Only the Skiers travel and compete. I was on the drinking team in the 80's at my college and we competed every weekend. Donald |

That is super cool! (Says this University of Alabama graduate.)
My 17yo daughter was down at Auburn for Engineering day a couple of weeks ago. It is a great school. If your daughter goes there she'll get to ski at Lyman Land when they travel to Tuscaloosa. Google it...it's a pretty awesome purpose built ski lake too. |

Holly smokes !!!!!!!!!! those are two beautiful lakes.
The Auburn folks told me that Alabama takes their Ski Team very serious. The Auburn deal is a club so they are not as intense. I was told to get on Alabama's team you have to be really really good. They are very selective in who they place on the team and it comes with a big scholarship. The Auburn deal has no scholarship attached. Just a CCFAN go fund me page. . Last Friday, we took two tours. The first tour was just a general generic tour of campus that last about 1.5 hours. Then in the afternoon, we took a one hour tour of the Engineering School. She is interested in Chemical and Electrical or CPU Science. Possibly not my kid. Donald |

That's some pretty cool stuff Donald. Good for Natalie. How cool being able to ski for college. That wasnt even on my radar back when I was looking at schools. I was going to ask if you guys are coming to the Lexington event, then I saw you signed up for Sunday, so I guess I will miss you. Where is Natalie in the course now?
That set up above is pretty nice. Reminded me of this real estate offering in FL. My next home? http://www.remax.com/realestatehomesforsale/4199-double-cut-drive-deland-fl-32720-gid200012864298.html |

Awesome. I hope she does it. I skied club level at Ole Miss many many years ago. It was one of the highlights of my college days. We skied at the Armsrtong's private lake in Duck Hill, MS. It was too far away, but awesome once you were there. I think it was an hour plus drive. I hope the Auburn lake is closer. That distance worked against us as a team. They had a link at ball of spray to steam the college championship this past year. I kept that streaming the whole time while at work. What a great time it looked like everyone was having. |

The Auburn Team Lake is only 25 minutes away. They have been skiing since February.
I signed up for the Lexington Nautique event for 10:00 AM on Sunday. Natalie is going to be at a Wake Forest leadership conference for three days ( F-S). She was chosen at her high school to attend the conference. She is the only one going from her school. She will not be able to make the Nautique event. Sunday night she returns to Coble Ski School to be a Jr. Counselor. She has a seven week gig with April Coble and her Ski Camp. I will have no one to hang out with this summer. Maybe you (Larry) and Greg will fill the void. LOL |

The above looks great however if building 2 lakes you have to question if not building them 90 degrees from one another so no matter the wind direction you would have favorable conditions. Being a private venue overcrowding would not be a concern. This is one of the good things about Coble's set up - many different filled gravel pits to ski in in varying directions |

I was ecstatic when my son began skiing at Michigan State University. It was club sport but they still made it to nationals regularly. The camaraderie of the team was great. Since it was club sport the U did not financially support them so it was camping every weekend with the party that ensued. Most of the team was serious enough that they had fun but remained focused and competitive.
My son’s senior year culminated with a personal national first place overall in Men’s division II. When my daughter decided to ski for The University of Michigan 3 years later I was not as excited about the social aspect as I was when my son started ! But she behaved and a had a great skiing career also. Collegiate skiing was some of the best skiing experience we had as a family. |
