This thread started out with a great backstory, the work performed shows you are a talented craftsman.
This is a well thought out and executed rebuild with plenty of attention to detail, very nice work.

No doubt you'll pass the torch handed you and see your grandchildren ski behind it.

On a lighter note, i agree with the earlier posts about keeping the brown, but you knocked the red outta the park.
Congrats

I fabricated the rear seat myself.   It is just some wood and metal brackets.   It really isn't that hard just be creative and make a few templates to create the style you are looking for.

Great boat! Turned out fantastic. Might have missed this detail while reading through the posts. When you painted your new red stripe, was there any protective clear coat that you painted over the red? If not I'm guessing the paint is very durable and can handle buffing compounds? Also, if you were to do it again would you spray on the stripe or use a roller method again?

I can get you the dimensions that I used but I would suggest using them as a guide to make custom fit it for your boat.    My boat didn’t have the rear back rest so I had to fabricate that also. I think the key to making the back seat look right is getting the height correct and getting the correct slope on the rear seat base.   To do that I used the observer seat brackets as a template and a Johnson T Bevel to transfer the angles.

That's my plan I was sure I'd have to tweak it a bit for my application but a baseline to start with will be a huge help.

Yes I have the back rest portion of the seat, missing the bottom cushion. I have been thinking of doing a base and really like how you did your setup.

Wisky Badger your resto came out simply awesome, great job. Any chance you have the details/measurements for the rear bench/storage base? That is exactly what I want to add to my 77 SN.

The transom decals are obviously not original but I think they look pretty good and it was a lot easier to do it this way vs. taping off the old graphic during the painting process.

I built a rear bench to add a little storage.   I made it removable with some threaded inserts installed in the removable floor panel to make it easier to service the boat or if you wanted to remove it if you didn't need the rear seat for the day.

Here are a few more pictures of the final product.   I still have a few more minor things to accomplish as projects like this are probably never complete.

The boat is finally back in the water.   I missed getting it ready for Green Lake by about four days, we will try and make it next year.

It has been awhile since my last update so I will post a quick update.

We have the engine back in the boat and where able to get it all aligned.   We test ran it on trailer using a bucket of water and it ran great after waking her up from a 21 month siesta.

Last Saturday we transferred the boat to a Supra trailer while the Correct Craft trailer is getting sandblasted and painted.   Hopefully the trailer will be ready by the end of the week.

r

The goal is still to have the boat and trailer ready for Green Lake on the 13th and 14th.   There is not a lot left to do besides install the new windshield, install the seats and take it for a shakedown run but I am running short on time with other things going on. I will post some better overview pictures once she gets back on the correct craft trailer and her seats are installed.

Good rule of thumb for coefficient of expansion for your steel coupling would be:
.0000064 per inch per degree Fahrenheit
So if you measured your shaft and the coupling and came up with a .002 interference fit at ambient temp then 325f degrees should make the i.d. grow .00208"
500f should make it grow .0032"
I would shoot for around 400f (.00256") and freeze the end of the shaft also.
Work fast and put a split collar on the shaft for a stop block so the collar will stop at right place.
I am not a Mechanical Engineer but I know where to look for the data.
Other ME's are welcome to pipe in here

Long story short: use 400f or 500f and you should be OK
Keep it as original as YOU want it

Now I have to get the new coupling on the shaft.   Do you guys think a gas grill will work to bring the coupling up to temp or is an oven a better option?   Also am I shooting for a temp of 400 degrees or 500 degrees?   I would have went with an double taper shaft but the shaft we had was straight so I thought I should just use it.   I am not looking forward to this step of the process.

Jacob,
Yes, it's looking fantastic. Great job.

The gas grill will do it just make sure the coupling is in it long enough. I'd say 30 to 45 minutes on high. Don't put the coupling directly over a flame. Since you have the engine out, you will have the luxury of getting the coupling on the shaft outside the boat.
