Wow guys, iim just going to take a look at it. I'll admit the inside should've been done at the same time. Obviously my taste is not as high as yours, but like I said I can deal with cosmetics. If I do end up with the boat it's hard to be proud first timers with this floating around.

My comment has nothing to do with your taste or why you're looking at this particular boat. It had all to do with the odd choice in color change, while the interior looked to be a great shape. maybe the guy was planning a change down the road,,, whatever. Just making the observation.. Sure its a cheap starter unit. I started with a lot less... ((((( But it sure did look better)))) hahahaha.. Good luck on picking up your 1st Nauti !!!

Corey, check this '93 out. Quite a ways from you, but looks like a heck of a deal.

Ramlin single axle Joel, if it's as nice as the pic looks that Sport will sell quickly.

Bagman if you can stretch the budget a bit that Sport would be a great fit for you and your family where you may outgrow a closed bow much sooner then the larger roomier Sport.

Smart to stay true to your budget. Don't spend money you don't have.
On the other hand, need to spend what you do wisely. A cheap boat may cost a fortune. Patience is the key, and also the most difficult, IMO.

I hear you on the $$$. It either works or not. You can always see how negotiable the NC sport is. Also note the amount of other stuff it comes with and add it up and you have some savings.

As for the comparison, the 99 is fairly different than the 94. The major differences, engine, bow seating and trunk storage. You can read til the cows come home on the differences in the engines. Both are good but I like the GT-40. The bow seating on the 94 is one big cushion (playpen) while the 99 is a walk through. The 99 is more comfortable for adults in the bow. Finally, the 99 has a trunk in the rear which gives you loads of additional storage.

Here's a sport a lot closer (comparison only to the NC sport) while both are sweet boats I have a hard time going past that 10k$ mark

Some solid advice here. I agree with the -5k$ range. No way I could pay the 7500 then do interior and expect my money back. That NC sport looks great but still a hair above the range I'm looking to stay in. We don't live on the water and closest is 1hr away so in my mind it's hard to go that expensive, and add that to it's our first, my range is kinda small I know. We've also been curious as to way the interior wasn't done at the same time. So surly it would have to warrant and much lower price.
I've got a few days off so I'm not opposed to driving some but just can't do $12k justifiably. No doubt if the NC sport could be had for around 10k would be worth the 4.5 hour ride

Agree with Quinner. For a non competitive skiing family, that 99 sport looks sweet. And it is OBO. And a great color combo and comes with some good extras. I am biased as I have a 99 sport, but nonetheless I think you would enjoy the open bow and extra storage. The ski wake is not bad at all for a recreational skier. If you could swing the extra $$, it would be a good option to look at, wouldn hurt to make an offer, never know when the owner may say yes. Plus most here really like the GT-40, I do.

I agree with BKH. If YOU like it, that's all that matters, and how you and your family will use it. I just got done restoring my 1993 SN, and while I did everything to restore interior and exterior back to original..I ALSO added a black Bimini top and a black Wake Tower. I know many guys hate the look, but it suits OUR families needs for some shade, and to get the tow rope up and outta the way, so people can safely sit in the back of the boat.

So if you like it..go for it. If you get a weird feeling about it, or thing the seller is hiding something..then pass.

my two cents
Dan

Bag_Man56,

I get it. Not the first time guys on this site have rained on someone's parade. The thing is, the opinions are objective. There's nothing to be gained or lost by telling you what they see. People on this site are amongst the most active buyers and sellers of these older Nautiques. Most look at sales adds for these boats daily. So they have a pretty good idea of what the market will bear in terms of both price and tastes.

Rather than focus on whether cosmetically pleasing, or not, my perspective that you should focus on the economics. I don't think you are getting sufficient discount on that boat to overcome the non-standard cosmetics. I did a quick search and found a nice 93 in Orlando asking 8500. Another in Minnesota asking 9000. There are dozens in the 10-12 asking range, and would probably sell for less. Here in CA, I see this era of boat under 10K, often.

So, if you paid 7500 for the boat, there is no way you could fix the graphics, or the upholstery for less money than you could buy another boat ready to go. If you go the upholstery route, even a cheap job will exceed 1500. If you go the graphics route, who knows.

Personally, I would think that if you can't get that boat for $5K or less, then I would pass. Even if you can get over the aesthetics, you will have to find another buyer that can get over it when you want to sell.

My unsolicited $.02

Gary, will you guys be trailer boaters or will you have a home dock??

Not sure if you can swing a few more bucks but a 99' sport will have a very comparable slalom wake to the 93' yet offer quite a bit more seating, space and storage then the 93'. You give up a little of the "sports car" tracking/handling but it does not sound like you will be running the slalom course so that should not matter.
Saw this 99' Sport in the diaries, looks like a nice boat.

Don't assume anything. Like I said before why go thru the expense of "regelling" and then leaving the interior?? Something is up. Go look at it but leave the rose colored glasses at home

You guys are great. We're not competition skiers or even close. I'm really just tying to get into a quality boat for the family (5 and an 8 year old) that the kids can enjoy for a while to come. I want it to run when we get to the lake and have a great day while out. Smaller cosmetics I can deal with like the decals and stuff. Would like the interior to match but can be dealt with. I assume the "re-gel" is a lot better than a paint job? Don't need to worry about any of that stuff either.

Then it probably has the standard 351 w/240HP not the Proboss with 300hp, in 93' both those motors had carbs.

Timbob, Jimmy's boat is a Sport so the ski wake will be even better on a Ski.
Jeffro, did he say Protech has been changed out or it does not have the ProBoss motor??

Gary, for sure determine if the color change was done in Gel or Paint, really needs a new interior though to get a color match going and it looks like the observer seat may have some issues, that could easily cost you $3,000.00. Graphics on one side are missing a letter, personally I would eliminate those graphics altogether or go back to something more like original

According to the email I received from the owner this morning, it is NOT the Protech and it was re-gelled in 2005.

I too have skied on that lake back in the 80's, nice little lake.
Thanks,
