Hi, I have a 1993 Ski Nautique with a Ford 351 Pro Boss engine, recently the eingine started to run low on RPMs after I sarted it and had black smoke that smelled like gasoline ,then the smoke turned gray, I had to adjust the carburator screw to set the RPMs higher.
I used the boat like that for like an hour since it worked just fine at high speed, and then the engine started work well, the RPMs got higher and there was no more smoke. This has happened every time I use the boat, I already changed the carburator gaskets, spark plugs and wires, coil and distributor cap (the boat has the retro kit), but the problem persists, any ideas? Thanks, |

Stuck float in the carb? Do you smell gas under the engine cover?

Yes, float stuck, or PV diaphragm blown.
Have you viewed the carb during operation? At idle, you should never see fuel from the boosters |

Thank you for your answers, I do smell gas under the engine cover, I'll check tomorrow the fuel from the boosters.

Sticky float or needle/seat is my first guess. Blown out power-valve is also a suspect. JQ |
