Interested in finding a barefoot boom. I've seen a few of these around on craigslist. Are there any recommendations? Do I get one that mounts from the tower or ski pylon? What kind of price should I expect? I've seen them before on craigslist from $500. My primary goal is to help my son (age 5) get use to water sports without the long rope start. He loves the water, but very reluctant to get on his own board at this point. Any pointers/help would be appreciated.

There was a recent thread about tower vs pylon booms and most guys with experience with tower booms didnt like them, to cumbersome to use. Go with a pylon, Not sure if your windshield configuration allows straight or if you need a curved, someone with knowledge of that will speak up. There are lots of flavors. Straight, Single curve that can extend forward or back or single curve that allows low mount. some single curves have two sets of mounting holes so you can do either/or with them. Then there are compound, that curve both back and up. Need to decide your preferences and needs.
You can do a lot better than $500. That is new price for a straight. If you are patient, you should be able to get one for 2 - 250.

“So, how was your weekend?”
“Well, let me see…sun burn, stiff neck, screwed up back, assorted aches and pains….yup, my weekend was great, thanks for asking.”

Thanks for the insight. Did a little research and it seems like I'm on the hunt for a pylon mounted boom and probably straight, too. I have a 99 Sport and the tower is mounted directly inline with the pylon. I found this thread with a picture of a straight boom installed, but set back a little. Seems like it would work fine.

Ending up finding a nice used boom. Bid for a few on e-bay and wow these are in high demand. Found this nice used one in the Orlando area. Quick test fit this A.M. Looking forward to having this to teach my son water sports and many others. Also, has me interested in learning to barefoot.

Did a few test runs today and man the chin spray was terrible. Need to work on adjustments.

Rotate it fore 90 (bend up only) and stick the bar between the tower leg and windshield, with some slight fore angle.

The ideal clamp height might be below the floor with that much bend so shim it off the gunnel if needed. Lots of people do that anyway with a throwable for "protection"
