I like most everything about it.
That must mean there's something I don't like though. It's an easily fixable thing, it's that plastic fuel filter hanging out in the bilge and if somebody put that in there, they may have used non marine fuel line too. It'll say on the hose if it's USCG approved. The rubber hose to the carb should be USCG approved too. |

Thank you for the compliments gentlemen. Keno as a car guy those plastic/ glass fuel filters drive me crazy!!! You are correct not marine grade fuel line as expected. Someone at some point redid a lot of things in a way I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy but I will slowly get her safe far before she becomes pretty.
I did notice today steering is a little hard, as well as the rudder has play to go along with the clamp block, seems the block has tons of all direction movement.i would love to replace all steering components and rebuild rudder to begin the rehab, any recommendation on exact where to buy these parts for a nearly 45 year old boat? |

How about that swim platform that's got the HD (or Menards) 5/4 SYP treated deck boards on it? Certainly functional but I have to say on the "tacky" side! John, Nice find! Keep us informed on your plans, the progress and posting pictures. |

Hi John
Assuming we're talking about the same thing, the clamp block seen behind the fuel filter/water separator in your last picture is built to pivot to allow the steering to work correctly. It's usually a ball and socket type setup and if the ball is loose in the socket, the clamp block needs to be replaced otherwise if it free moving without slop it's good. I'd take the steering system apart and figure out what has problems first. You'll get "sticker shock" on things like the price of a rudder so if that's good, I wouldn't replace it. Cables, clamp blocks, whole helms with cable included etc can be found lots of places. Go2 Marine seems to get recommended by a good number of people on the site Another one is Marine Parts Source and of course somebody will come along and suggest supporting a site sponsor like Nautiqueparts.com. You'll probably have to figure out what you need because telling most any parts outfit that you need a steering cable for example for a 45 year old CC Tobago will baffle them. You can get plenty of help here on CCF when it comes to figuring out what you need before you order stuff though |

The Tobago sure would be a neat boat to have. Think I might even prefer it over the Fish..... well maybe. One thing I noticed about that one from the craigslist ad is that it has an automotive carburetor.

I went and found the ad and it does look to be automotive. The list number on the air horn would help verify what it is I'd say the wise thing would be to be looking at the distributor, fuel pump, alternator, starter.to see if they're marine. Pictures and questions here on CCF will help you with determining that stuff. Just remember, nobody's picking on you, just pointing out the "safety stuff" that the guy you bought it from may have taken some shortcuts on. Except Pete who's picking on the platform There are a few other things mentioned in the CL ad that will draw some attention from somebody like Pete, but we'll let him find the ad |

Thanks again guys for the complimants, thank you keno for the advice. To clarify a couple things it does have a automotive carburator, alternator along with mutiple other back yard not up to par repairs, but i did make this all aware to the buyer before purchasing the boat. I can almost assure i bought the cheapest running tobago anyone in at least recent history can say they have bought😉. The boat will take on a Correct make over in due time i will make it safe first, take her out on the river a few times before she goes under the knife for quite some time. My intentions for this boat in the future is much different then 99% of people would use this boat for,but the pictures when i begin the overhaul will explain that.Lets just say a big shiny thing will drop down and blow sand up is this boats main purpose.

Well you won't be the first one on here with a big shiny thing blowing sand around.
Might take some searching but there was somebody a number of years ago using something like a 67 Ski Nautique with one of those attachments to rearrange river/lake bottoms. |

/ ocean bottoms . I'm very good friends with one of the biggest names in Andrea Doria diving, once you get gold fever you can't get rid of it... Diving to a Flash of Gold is a good book if you have not read it.

Thank you keno for the link. Iam familiar with the boat and capt he worked with, curious if hes out this season with the ski nautique. Would be one hell of a sight leaving the Sebastian inlet in a ski boat.
