I just sent this to a friend with a tired old carbuteted engine. I did a GT-40 swap on my old Supra, it was easy and well worth the time. Mine had 1,600 hours on it when I sold it and it ran like new.

Good luck with the sale, Maybe you'll hear from my friend.

What are you putting in its place?

Morgan,
Did the opposite prop rotation do anything to the Supra handling?

Pete, maybe you know, but it isnt stated here what year the supra was. My 89 had the same drive train as an 89 Nautique. Left turning engine, 1.23:1 reversing transmission. I can only assume supra had the rr rotation and 1:1 before that, hence, same set up as Nautique and no handling issues.

I think most of if not at least some of the other inboard ski boats have Left turning props. Not an issue, is it?

Not sure I understand your question.

Larry,
I assumed that the Supra had a LH prop so I was curious what happened if anything with the RH. Maybe Morgan will be back and comment?

I believe the 1:1 supras turned LH props. I am guessing that they did not compensate for prop rotation in the hull shape since they switched prop direction in the middle of the TS6M production run.

My crystal ball and a look at the Supra website tells me that Morgan had an 89 with a 1.23 to 1 transmission so he swapped a normal rotation engine for a normal rotation engine and saw no handling differences.

On the other hand, one of the boats in our family is an 88 Supra Mariah that was born a lefty, died we bought it and it was reincarnated as a righty since I had a righty engine hanging around.

Later after rebuilding the original engine it became a lefty again

Since I figure you're fishing around for handling differences Pete, it handled different in reverse and it turned easier in one direction than the other going forward depending on which engine was in it as you would expect in both cases.

Being a big, wide boat there were no noticeable listing issues with either rotation engine. Mostly because it's not a skinny short 70's CC.

The wake was slightly more symmetrical as a lefty (kinda' a subjective opinion, there wasn't much difference at all)

It accelerated better and was faster as a lefty but that might have been due to an extra 50 or so HP after the rebuild

By the way, Supra's started out with LH props, went to RH props for a short time with the 1.23 to 1 transmission, then back to LH props and 1 to 1 transmissions when they switched to Indmar power after a change in ownership

Maybe some Supra guy from the right years will be interested

Folks, Please.....I am trying to sell an engine, not host a discussion on Supra and prop rotation.

Thanks for your understanding.

Correct plus Jim, it may be better for you to post in the for sale forum section and not the forum general section.

This is CCF

When's the last time a thread actually stayed on track and didn't stray off to wherever?

Besides, the Supra discussion might sell your engine a little easier

Is that a new transmission or a rebuilt original that you're selling?

Hi Jim,
Jody Here,

You might make more off the engine parting it out. The ECM is NLA and really a pricey bugger to replace if one needs one!
Glad to see you are moving over to a Re-power Excalibur. We are doing one in the shop now on a 99 Bubble back.
Cheers buddy!

Hey Jody,

Would like to sell complete or may just keep to put in a Shamrock. The 1.23: 40 A is mint. Keep it in mind if needing a 40. I also have the original 40 A out of my 97 ski that is perfect other than the whine experienced in gears of it's vintage. Will let that one go really reasonable.

As far as parting out the engine I'm not really interested in doing that. I will entertain an offer on the whole engine.

Thanks,
Jim

There was one on ski it again at the end of March. Complete and running but had a cracked block for 1K at a Nautique dealer. If I'd had been home I would have called. Should have anyway and seen if they would have held it til I got there. Skidim last had brand new ones in '04 for 6500. One of those and a closed cooling system would had tripled my Shamrock's value

Man you guys are brutal.
Cut the guy some slack, it's over priced but he'll find that out when he doesn't get any bite's.
Can't crush the guy for trying to make up some of the money for his upgrade by listing it to high, after all it's up to the buyer and what they are willing to pay.
