Mojo.....What is your understanding of water ski spotter laws in WI? I read or heard that you don't need a spotter if the driver has a convex ski mirror. Is that true? Are orange flags on the boat the law in WI when someone is skiing?

Just wanted to see what the Green Lake Answer Man has to say on these issues!

Correct, no spotter necessary with a wide angle mirror. Never seen a flag on GL, so you should be good there..

Got your ears on? I say we get us a convoy of classic Ford trucks pulling classic CC boats up Highway 41 comin' north out of MKE.. Come back. That's a big 10-4 good buddy. We got us a convoy. Got to watch for them smokeys out the front door cause we got a '68 Ford haulin' a Martinique and a bootleg load of Spotted Cow from New Glarus.

Sorry....couldn't resist a re-dux of Smokey and the Bandit.

Alan,
I take 26 up to County A, which turns you back up Northwest. It runs you into Fox Lake, WI rte 33 which you take West for about a mile then turn back on A North. County A zig zags all the way to GL.

Mojo.....Do you ever take 41 up when you tow a boat up? I was thinking of taking 26 up. I looked at Google Maps coming up from Delavan. It takes about 2 hours coming up Hwy. 26, but, lots of zig zags, and starting and stopping. I learned the hard way when towing my boat back home from WI on Memorial Day my old Ford does NOT like the starting and stopping, and slow speeds when towing the MQ.

The engine overheated, trans overheated, brakes overheated, etc. If I take Int. 43 up from Delavan to Milw. and take Int. 41 north, it is 30 miles more on the trip, but the same travel time. So, to keep my airspeed up (as in air flowing through the radiator and trans cooler), it makes sense for me to take 41.

I used to live in Chicago and now live in Ripon. Have tried several different routes between the two. My brother (whom I sometimes visit) lives in West Chicago. Even from that far west, it usually is faster for me to go up through Milwaukee rather than Rockford and Madison. But it's close, depending on traffic, construction, exact beginning point in the Chicago area and your preferred scenery, it can change.

I just swapped out a rusty trailer bearing and nasty grease. Check those trailers before hitting the road.

See you guys tomorrow!

Now he tells me - im on the road just under 800 miles to go - old truck, old trailer, and old boat that is currently missing a charging system - should be there somewhere between 2pm and tuesday.

Change of plans for me, My son is convinced it will be a rain out thiis weekend so he dropped out, I am coming without a boat, Will hang with DavidG. in his fancy Martinique. See everyone tomorrow. .
For thousands of years men have felt the irresistible urge to go to sea, and many of them died. Things got better after they invented boats.

Dave,
It doesn't look good! Forecast:

"As the cold front moves through it is likely to slow down across central Wisconsin. This scenario will keep the threat for showers in the forecast through about noon tomorrow. Otherwise, partly cloudy with a light west breeze and high temperatures in the low to middle 80s.
Looking ahead, The threat for a thundershower never really leaves the forecast Saturday and Sunday".

The latest I've seen is the rain will quit around noon Sat and it should be partly cloudy from there on out.

Now the rain is supposed to stop by 10 AM Sat and if weather forecast history around here holds true, it will likely be earlier.

So Syd and I got up early and hit the road at 5AM. We had to drive north of Green Lake to Neshkoro to pick up a boat. Syd wanted to get some time on the slalom course so we chose the Sport.

Got on the lake at about 10AM and noticed some rather ominous clouds to the North, luckily they stayed North or at least skirted around us, Needless to say they were filled with lightening and rain. Here is a picture of the storm as it made its way east:

Syd skied two sets and then another thunderstorm appeared around 11:30AM, We were not so lucky with this one, so we sought out safe harbor at the Riley Pub pier - shameless plug, as the owner is my wife's cousin, but the food is great - you have to try the Irish Nachos... Anyway the rain passed, I made a few work calls and Frankenotter and Liz joined us. They all skied 2 or 3 more sets. While we were skiing Alan and Dana joined us, they tied up to the Sport, and well, everybody needs a picture of their boat with the Hurricane, so here is mine...

We talked Alan into a slalom run and here he is skiing behind the Hurricane!

About 3PM we decided to all mount up and head over to the bay, to see who else had arrived. Here is Frankenotters 176 on the prowl:

Syd sporting Hawaian print, looks pretty good commanding the Sport...

Have a great weekend everybody, wish we could stay longer, see you all soon.

Well, my truck is down and I had a friend lined up to tow my boat over to GL and he just canceled. So here I am just on the east side of Ripon and there are those there with a truck and no boat and I'm here with a boat and no truck.... Bummer.

Not exactly a Green Lake scale gathering, but still a great time when there was a Harper sighting in Seven Lakes, NC this weekend.

Cheney

Rumor has it there was a similar small gathering in Maine involving my NC ski partner
