It just occurred to me that the distributor shouldn't work on the new engine, because the gear would be cut for a RH, right??

Distributor is fine for either direction.
Hopefully you had some input on the Prop selection? I don’t recall that being discussed. |

Don't let them give you a reconditioned Federal.

It's a long explanation but on your Chevy it doesn't matter. The cam turns the same direction regardless of rotation of the crankshaft and the same distributor and gear work either way. The new engine is already running Just make sure it's pumping water. |

Does anyone know what the right spec prop would be for a 454?

Engine alone is not enough to pick a prop.
Why not find a LH version of what you had if that was working for you? |

I would want an acme 431 as a starting point prop if I was spending their money or yours.

Thanks for all the help. I'm new to older boats, my previous boat experience was in new Mastercraft wakeboard style boats.

Sorry, its been a day since an update.
Boat isn't ready - who is surprised? But one of my pups had to have emergency surgery Thursday night, so I haven't had time to deal with the boat yet. I'll follow up Monday |

He's in a splint with 4 torn tendons. He'll be in the splint for 7 weeks. He's doing fine now, and doesn't appear to be bothered by the splint. I can't seem to figure this whole picture thing out. pic 1 pic 2 pic 3 |

Your dog will be jumping fences before the "priority" customer boat is back on the water.

Yeah, it's a bummer. But I'm gonna just keep quiet about it until it's resolved. But I'll make sure to update y'all once it's completely resolved. |

Well, you can ... But it's more of a pain. You have to upload your pics directly to your 'file manager' under the control panel tab above. Then using the "post reply" tab at the top of each page you can point to that pic's CCF web address using the "insert photo" tab. I'm thinking this method will also work for those that have a problem uploading from tablets |

Can you just have them remove the engine and get all of your money back?
Seems like it might get done faster at that rate. |

Ian,
Be patient. I have a feeling their "tech" is off at school learning how to index a trans pump. |

I've considered this, quite a few times. I could've done all this *************** myself, but I didn't because I had just had shoulder surgery when this whole fiasco started, and was only functioning with 1 hand.... But now here we are, me with 2 good hands, and no boat. |

You are spot on. But I will hold my tongue on these details until I have my boat back, and this whole clusterfvck is settled. |

Can someone point me to a place I can find some numbers that would reflect the diminished value of a 1985 Ski Nautique 2001 for having a non-standard engine and prop (LH instead of RH)?

Those numbers don't exist - even if they were tracked somewhere no two used boats are ever completely comparable. My earlier assessment I stand by. Minimally the value difference would be the cost difference to take the LH boat and make it RH. Somewhat less of a difference in value if the boat was already significantly modified from original, and more if the boat was a pristine example of an original boat.

Ian, there will not be in this case. Boat had very little value to begin with. Old engine would be blown and if engine is New then it would actually increase the value regardless of which direction the prop turns.
These boats in restored condition are only worth 8k or so with a trailer. |
