It has to go. It's on Ebay $6500 opening bid, no reserve.
If you ever wanted an Atom Skier now is your time. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1963-Correct-Craft/282954549751 |

Is that aft cover vinyl? Looks cool, bet it is fast. What about that hot rod tow truck?

Love to know how you make out. I'd take that kind of money for my Atom Skier fin boat all day long. Good luck.

Jack, Mike had the Atom on Ebay in August of 2015 and then again in March of 2017. Both times zero bids. I don't feel Ebay is a good spot to list a wood boat. I had suggested to Mike Classic Boating would be my choice and now with the advent of Woody Boater another. Mike have you listed the Atom elsewhere? |

That just might help Pete, also recognition of the reality that these older plywood Correct Craft boats just don't fetch that kind of money. Adjusting the price to a more realistic $3000-$4000 range price might be more of a help in the sale. Just trying to be realistic here as an owner of one or two. We are getting ready to start the restoration of the Starflite in fully aware of the final value and that the cost of the work may well exceed its final value. Wonder if any agree with me.

Jack, I'm fully aware and agree. I'd have to say over 90% of the wood boat restoration costs exceed their market value. Many, especially 1st time wood boat owners get big surprises! Maybe Mike really doesn't want to sell the Atom!! |

The rear covers are wood. Very cool butterfly pattern when you see them in person. I built them to run the classic race boat event in Tavarse.
I custom built the trailer to get the resto-mod look. All the receipts add up to over $14,000. There is over $6,000 in the engine parts alone. Have you priced y-block build lately. It's no small block Chevy. My best friend owns a machine shop, and like I said parts alone were crazy. Labor would have been another $5000. I will pickle and pull the motor and let the thing set outside if that's what it comes too. |

This is my experience as well. And for every "one of xx" or whatever other history, features, upgrades, or other qualities each individual wooden boat has, there are 1,000 others that are special in their own way, too. That's what makes them great! To the current owner, that is. Sometimes you are lucky and find someone else who wants the exact one you have, and sees all the work done, the value in that, and makes the purchase. I also agree that the specialty listings are the best place to find such a person. Best of luck with the sale, it looks like fantastic boat. I'd like to see more pictures! --- A few years ago I knew someone who lost their 1966 21' Century Resorter in a fire. Apparently there were only 150 ever made in the 63-66 era but after a little searching, the guy had another one just a few weeks later. I'm sure he was willing to pay just about any amount. |

You just have to find that 1 guy (or gal!)
I have had several classic cars that someone several states away came & bought, never even sat in them. Good luck! |

It just might - IMHO it is well priced for what it is - no they aren't rare high end boats but its well restored, and completely usable. If you bring it up to Skaneateles in July you can stay with me... not on Skaneateles lake of course they don't let my kind in there but I snuck in one lake over. |

Mike,
I see you struck out on Ebay for the 3rd time with zero bids. Are you an ACBS member? If so, you can run an ad in the Rudder besides the two spots I mentioned before.
Have you tried other spots? |

Mike, I see you didn't get any bids on your third Ebay listing. What are your plans. I hate to see the boat sit outside. |

I'm not 100% sure.
If there are no "Correct Craft Fans" who are interested, who ever would be? My biggest fear is someone will buy it for the engine and junk the boat. B7ME Ford Y-blocks are a rare engine. It can used as a service replacement on early Thunderbirds. I found a closed cooled V6 on local Craigslist, I may swap out the engine and use the boat. The aluminum Intercept parts are too rare to use the engine here in saltwater. |

Two types of typical correctcraftfans around here - watersports guys looking to get into relatively cost effective tow boats, and do it yourself boat builder types who are looking to find cheap restorable boats and work on them themselves. Mostly we are all cheap skates who would spend time on the internet learning about boats so we can work on them ourselves. You are looking more for a buyer than a builder. The buyer you are looking for is one that places a premium on usability - I still think the boat is well priced it would probably sell up here on craigslist with the proper ad. Down there I am not familiar with. Putting in a different engine and getting some use out of it isn't the worst idea I've heard but it would still be hard to get out of that engine anything near what you put into it. |

People do run them on the ocean. I have a friend that rebuilt an Interceptor 292 last year for a guy on Narragansett Bay in RI and he is currently rebuilding another one for a Correct Craft that is on the ocean in Downeast Maine. Both boats supposedly have been run in those locations for a long time.

Mike,
Before you go and pull the original engine, why don't you run ads in the publications I mentioned. (Classic Boating, Woody Boater and the ACBS Rudder) As mentioned, Ebay is not the place to sell a classic wood boat. |

And if it comes down to needing exhaust manifolds, the originals can be rebuilt like new or better. |

Pete - just had Crow rebuild the Buick 300 Manifolds and mixers to the tune of $X,XXX.xx/side with shipping. Tore my heart out AND emptied my wallet! They are beautiful, but whoa! |

Steve,
Yes, restoration can and typically does come down to being expensive but when an item is no longer available rebuilding or even making something from scratch is the only option. Crow sure does nice work. |

Crow rebuilt the manifolds and re-created the rusted mixers. They look amazing! But his estimating skills are non-existent. I could NEVER get an estimate, gestimate or rough figure at any step of the way. Since he's the only show in town, I was stuck with a surprise at the end. I only say that to prepare others - not to quarrel with his work. It was a shame that his lack of preparing his customer for a large bill sours the interaction with him as he is certainly a great craftsman.

Steve,
At least you didn't have the extreme burden of restoring the Hathor The Lathrop 115-6 got very involved. Larry ended up needing a pattern maker for the engine jugs, a foundry to cast them and then a good machine shop to finish them. |

Steve, when you started flirting with that Buick Revley did you think the cost would be "not much"?

Bruce- When did I say "not much"? No one has ever said "not much" on any of the boats that come through my garage. I am not used to saying "anything you want" however. Part of the decision to rebuild or scrap for parts is based on time/money/effort equation..... I don't have to tell you that.
But I do need some cover advice for a pattern for the AT Skier hull - short 'cuda hull with low plastic windshield. |

First off Steve, never, I repeat never post any prices on a project- you may end up paying twice if you get my drift
Second is you'll forget the price the first time you drive it,it's tough now because all you have are the bills. I'm guessing you have never driven it ? |

So Gary, I'm not supposed to tell you that prominent maker of Aluminum marine manifolds who recently moved their operations overseas wanted a minimum of $-------- to build new manifolds? So much for the online community to share knowledge and find online resources. I thought we didn't share rebuild costs because we are all cheapskates and we value a deal above all else.
