wondering if my flow is enough on my engines...351w with crank driven water pumps into engine, thru thermostat to HiTek exhausts. the risers are more than warm. You can touch them but not leave your hand on them.

140 degree thermostat with 1/8 inch hole drilled.

I don't think you have a problem,I have the same exhausts on a PCM 302 and it feels hot too.. But then again so does my HM and my GT 40. Obviously a more accurate method would be better but I have never bothered to check mine as I don't think there is a problem. You cannot leave your hand on any of them.

This may not address hot manifolds, but you're engine will probably be happier with a 160/170 t-stat.
Maybe buy (or borrow) an Infra-red heat sensor and check manifolds.

The crank mounted pump is a hint that this is not the PCM cooling setup that many of us are familiar with – who marinized the engine? Is there a circulation pump? Pictures would help, along with some better temp data.

BTW, I too have never found a engine that you can leave your hand on a exhaust manifold.

it's a Holman Moody marinization. with crank mounted pumps.

maybe it's the thinness of the stainless headers. I'll look for my infrared gauge.   and a photo!

They likely wont run real cool, but if they are getting up there to boiling temps you are going to need to be careful for sure. If they are new strokers make sure you are not being too aggressive with the timing. 418s would need to much less total timing ( but possibly more intial timing) than a 351w and running them with a stock curve and too much timing will get everything hot - until it blows up.

I can touch them. I just can't sit on them.
