After a few years of getting a 1980 hull and drive train,I've found everything I need for a complete 1980 ski nautique. It had nothing. Other than a hull. I found original windshield,Morse controls, platform ,mirror, steering wheel ect. I went after market gauges ,except for Speedos! The motor ran ,but bent a valve that sat in open position when I went to start it. After working my tail off and not getting time, engine problems turned more problematic. Pistons rusted to walls and engine seized up. I hit it with kroil and let it set even longer. Bad decision. After a little thought,I jumped up yesterday morning and pulled the motor. Took 3 hours. 2 hours to organize tools and get cherry picker from friends house. He's had it 10 years. Right at an hour to pull it. I loaded it up and brought to my guy I get to do things I don't have the have time to or take more time than I have. So hopefully before next year it'll be on the water. It's only been on the trailer for 16 years. Wish me luck. I think I'll need a head for sure. I'll update with pics as we get to different phases. I know how y'all like pics.

Joe,
The site likes pictures off PC's and not off other devices.

I am not concerned about the water passages but I would tear it down and let a real machine shop put a new hone on the cylinders. A new set of rings and you would know it is good.
A new hone could take less than .001 material out and fix your cylinders.
It is out now, no reason to cut corners.
Unless the cylinders show deep rust damage after the hone I would not bore it.
BTW: a 50/50 mix of Acetone and ATF fluid works better than anything breaking rusted parts loose.
After the long sit you will need to drain the old gas from the tank.
Old gas will not burn right but will varnish your valves and piston heads.
The valves will stick causing another tear down.

Well it all looks good at this point. Was just enough condensation to lock it up. It broke free really easy. Tore it down. Realized boat is a 1980 and engine is a 1979. Don't know if that's the origional block, but seems to be from what PO says. Im picking up new push fods today and gasket set will be in from skidim on Monday. Ill also be grabbing a set of heads from Rod (from here on CCF) on Sunday but I'll go head and make sure they are all ready to go prior to installing them I've gotten all my tourqe specs in hand as well
.I think I might even paint the engine back to the factory blue Today is going to conaist of cleaning and a little glass repair in the battery box area. After that I'll paint builge area and prep for engine install next weekend if time allows. Work always gets in the way. That's for all the input and info guys. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

So,the engine was originally blue. I like the silver grey better. All the purists will probably have input on this. Let's have some input. The silver grey I've seen looks cleaner.

Some pieces of the engine may have been blue from Ford, but that engine would have been silver coming from PCM in 1980. A commander would ave been blue though. Which do you have?

From a post back in April it would seem to be a "mixed breed" Commander with PCM style manifolds

It's the commander. The bell housing paints flaked off over the. Years. And you're correct on the pcm manifolds. It's a bastard child Ken.

Blue would be easier. Silver would look cleaner. Orange was a spelling error;)

Or paint it like Earl Scheib would have with left over paint!

Go with the original blue.

If all goes well sat,I will have a set of heads for the block. The original ones sat way to long. Valves became permanent in the guides (SP). So I'll be really close to putting it all back together. Then the pain comes. Getting it back in the boat. I'm gonna do some well needed cleaning prior to re install. Probably some painting of the main stringers and such. Was thinking about a rewire too. Not sure. It all depends on how I feel. I have 25 jobs on the books and 3 I'm in the middle of. I'm ready to retire!!!!! Just an update guys.
