Whoa, yes I am a keep it original guy.... but...
I have a Ramlin trailer at Ramlin getting disassembled, blasted, painted, all new hard ware and decals, wood, carpet, wheels, brakes, wires, lights, few modifications. Fenders are staying original per their recommendations and they’re not concerned about the minor surface rust due to location once they’re blasted. I’m skeptical Plan was to do either black gloss paint with matching purple pin stripe or possibly purple gloss. Ramlin asked/raved about painting trailer with Raptor Coating (essentially bed liner). They’ve been doing some trailers with it and spraying the wakeboard towers of a major local boat manufacturer with the Raptor. I have to admit it doesn’t look bad. I like they idea of it on the fenders due to just enough texture and it’ll hide the areas of concern I have. If I do the Raptor coating it’ll be matching purple. I’m about 60% sold on the coating. I know there will be a lot of naysayers so let the negative thoughts roll. If I stick with paint, normal black or color match the purple? |

You had me until you said purple,I personally would go with black but it's your trailer! I want to try that sort of bedliner stuff on my oil pans. You could have the fenders painted with regular paint and have someone put on XPEL paint protection film on to protect them. Another big area of concern is inside the frame tubes themselves, not much different from the rusted out rocker panels on northern vehicles. When your all done see if you can find a way to coat the insides like Ziebart or a Rusty Jones type thing. I used this on mine.

I decided to go with paint. Put better fenders on. The trailer is painted purple, matched the color fairly close to the purple gel but might not be close enough. Keeping wood and black carpet running boards so hoping that and black pin stripe and black non skid on fenders will break up the purple some. I gotta admit, might be too much purple even for me.. After seeing the boat on a white trailer dolly I’m surprised to admit I wish I went with a white trailer instead.

Ramlin did a good job. Happy with the price. Decided to have the trailer matched to the purple stripe of the boat. Black pin striping on trailer with era correct black wheels and black carpet. They matched the paint to within meh 96% of the boats color and I agreed to it. Test piece (guide pole) matched up real real real close. Put the purple NWZ with the black upper stripe onto this purple trailer and the trailer f**king turns pink and the purple on the boat seems to gain some black. I pull the guide pole padding up where it 3” from the boat and it’s the same color..... stand back 30’ and trailer turns pink. Driving a purple boat is A-Ok but towing a pink trailer is crossing the line. I’m afraid im gonna have to pay them to disassemble again and shoot it black.

Ouch! I'm with you... I like purple well enough, but the pink would have to go
When you get it done, we'll of course have to view some pics - sounds like it's basically a new trailer! |

What did Ramlin charge you for the paint job? I'm just curious to see how the costs compare in a different market. My sand blast-and-paint of my 2-axle trailer was $1,300. JQ |

JQ,
Almost half that to disassemble, sandblast, two coats of paint and reassemble. Black was no upcharge I believe, special color was additional $150. Pin stripe was also no upcharge. |

I feel it matches up good in these photos views. Problem is, as a whole and with light hitting everything at a different angle and spot it looks like this: Before: Pretty dumpy here: |

Looks very 90s and matches the boat, I'd leave it purple. You'll never have trouble finding your trailer at the boat ramp!

WOW, they seemed to save or replace some rusted metal very nicely. One thing to consider, on my 2002 Ramlin for my Sport. The previous owner removed the plywood and carpet and cut new plywood spray, top side only so it could breath, in black bed liner material. It has held up very well and adds traction while climbing up with wet feet. Also,it seems to get the approval of some of the tougher opinions on this site. It being a a Master's pickup boat for 2002, I had to be careful.

I have been getting quotes for a new trailer in the $6K plus range. Money well spent keeping yours in good shape.

I don't hate it. I've got a purple boat with a very faded purple trailer. I'd actually go back purple if I was going to repaint it but our lake eats trailers (and this one is closed tube) so I'm just going to run it as is and replace when needed.

Treybizttu - you said that your lake eats trailers . Is lake brackish water ?
