I read somewhere ( maybe on CCF ) that the black ECM made by motocraft if for marine applications, and the grey ECM which I purchased at NAPA is for automotive only.

I did not know this previously, and have installed a grey ECM on my boat........ is this going to be a problem ? It runs fine at the moment.

Probably a question for 79.........

After doing some research, I found that it states in the GT-40 Service Manual that "the TFI-IV module utilizes Computer Controlled Dwell (CCD) and is identified by its black color. Gray modules are called "Push Start" and are for automotive use only."

Mine is gray, and seems to work.......... does anyone know what the implications are ?

Todd, you're probably right that 79 will now. He's been on a trip or something.

The good thing is that it runs well right now!

btw, beautiful boat.

Thanks Dude,

I wanted a sport as well, like yours ( which is a sweet looking boat as well ), but couldn't find one for a good price. They are hard to come by out here in Ca.

There maybe more to it that I am missing but the push start modules were actually for standard vehicles as they had an additional operating mode that allowed for a vehicle to be push started. Other than that they were basically identical computers if it works your probably in the clear as I can't see how the push starting mode being there is going to effect you... but I have been wrong before.. probably today...
