Got to be a scam, $2K for what shows in the picture can't be true!

Not quite as nice as that photo but sill a nice boat,   It hasn't been in the water in 4 years so tha picture is misleading but is in the condition I would expect with some topside plank spacing similar to Todds commuter we brought home a few years ago. It will need more than a little work and I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do with it right now but I did buy it yesterday.   If someone shows interest in it before I get to it I might sell it as is, it's probably going to sit around for a while as Number one has to come first

It did have a new bottom professionally installed about 10 years ago and that was as a big factor in deciding to buy it. I would probably pull the sides off, install new inner plywood and try to save and reuse the original planking. That would be the easiest and most economical approach if the original planking comes off without destroying it. I should have the boat home in a few weeks

Spotted that ad a few days ago. Like others, I guess, I questioned the price vs the boat. I was also kind of surprised we had never seen or heard of it before given the fact that is it over near charlotte, possibly even lake Norman.

You coming down to pick it up sometime Alan? If so, let me know when.

That boats been in the diaries For almost 10 years and I always thought it was a sweet boat to own so when it showed up at that price I thought it was a typo.   It does need quite a bit of work but it's got good bones

Larry I think Todd and will be down in a few weeks to get it.

Here are a few pictures of the Collegian, it's been moved to storage until I can get down to NC to pick it up. For the most part it is what I expected so at this point I don't have any surprises. The side plank gaps have opened up so they will need to be removed, will probably reskin the inside ply and try to reuse the original planks like we did on Todd's Commuter.   The steering column, wheel and dash are weird and the interior is certainly wrong although if it's serviceable it will probably stay.   That's as much of a plan as I have right now.

Common side draft carb setup from that era, from the Little I know of that era. That interior looks like it came out of a Lazy Boy factory. Cool boat.

Alan,
You mention the bottom has been done. What type? Hopefully a 5200.

Yes, I'm struggling with how anyone would do that to a classic!

I was starting to miss ya Petey. Hadn’t seen any posts by you lately. Guess you been busy digging the Subie out of the snow? I figured a good non original mod to a wooden boat would get you going.

Todd,
No need to dig the lesmobile out of the snow simply because we don't have much this year yet. 6 inches on the ground and really not even the best for the snowmobile trails.

Struggle with this then Pete- In the mid to late 80's a good friend was the auto shop teacher at Johnsburg High School. It was his job every fall to prepare the homecoming bonfire. The little Correct Craft American Skier that got me into all this was donated for one of the years bonfires. Maybe because it was fiberglass, maybe because it still ran he brought it home. The others were not so fortunate. Maybe the PO had bad taste but at least they loved that boat enough that it did not end up as so many others did.
PS so you get to use the boat one day a year and now you come clean that snowmobiles get used on one of the other days??

So I made the trip down to the BBC this past weekend and picked up the Collegian. Always fun to visit the BBC just wish I had more time to hang a round and help out on a few of the bigger projects going on down there.

Anyway I brought a set of tires and a fresh set of bearings with me, got them all installed, had lunch and hit the road back home. Uneventful drive which is always good, Dropped it off at Todd's shed for the summer.

As for the boat, the condition is as expected. Wide open gaps in the topside planking but very similar to the Commuter we did for Todd and our repair approach worked well on that one. The plan right now is to pull the motor out and assess the frame members,

The deck looks good and the wood looks serviceable, will just need a little repair and then strip and refinish.

The boat will come home to my shop in the fall and we'll flip it over and assess the bottom, I think it's serviceable so hopefully it doesn't have to come off but we'll see.

The interior is a no go, it actually looks worse in person than the pictures show, it is just plain fugly. Plan is to put it back as close to original as I can.

Plan for the powerplant is to do a swap with the motor that's in #1 so #1 will get it's Y Block and the Collegian will get #1's barely used 302 PCM. That should make the Collegian a nice running little daily driver and #1 will be closer to original.

The boat will be for sale when done and should make someone a really nice classic daily driver.

I'll post a few more pictures when I get a chance later and will start a new resto thread when the time comes.
